But she's so pure though, maybe if you throw her in a volcano it will reverse global warming and throw us back in to an ice age.

(technically, we're already in one... but details are overrated).

You know me so well. In terms of this forum, she is pure. She has her issues, obviously, but nobody is perfect. She is about as perfect for me as it gets...plus I couldn't do any better on looks...so that helps too. She is also truly a super-mom, which is awesome with our four kids.

And of course my anxiety is back on high alert due to my mother-in-law being back in the hospital. Her one lung is filling with blood. She is also supposed to get her biopsy back today to see if the spot on her lung is cancer...not fun.

Sounds like you got a pretty damn good woman hank. Be sure you're taking her to church pretty often and pray with her the best you can. That might help with the anxiety too.

We are a church-every-Sunday family. Obviously prayers at dinner time and also with the kids before bed, but it has been a while since we prayed together about other things...used to do it every night before bed. Just got out of the habit. I may need to push that to start up again.

There's your problem, you spend so much time trying to please your god that you don't have enough time to worry about everything else.

Now that we identified the problem, it can be fixed!

Got some great news! My mother-in-law's biopsy results came back and she is cancer free. They also figured out that the bleeding into her lungs is because of her previous chest tube hole not healing correctly. Everything should be ok, she will just be in a lot of pain the next couple weeks.

What is funny about this is that I have never even tried one puff. Although I did get a slight contact buzz once when I was doing a missions trip in Jamaica. Talking to a guy about coming to church while he smoked. ha

What Speyside said. Meditation, deep breathing exercise, or both. Find something that calms your nerves. This works wonders for honestly. I was in a bad place for about 6 years after Afghanistan, drugs didn't help me. Deep breathing exercise and Meditation for the most part saved my life. It really comes down to you have feel that you want to get better. If not for yourself but your wife and kids. Don't just push off drugs because someone on here says they don't work either sometimes its hereditary and a true chemical imbalance, they just might have to try a few different kinds. Keep strong, have a cigar and enjoy the 1/2-2 hours as break from life.

Just a random thought when I read through the latest batch of comments, and I saw that you did missions, and knowing you're an every Sunday sort of guy...

An extra 10% per month by not paying tithing should decrease the stress levels.

I mean, you can buy a whole lot of cigars with that extra cash.

Again, just a thought.

Also, just curious, do they want 10% of the gross, or 10% of the net?

ROFL, that's too funny. Can't imagine a church asking to see your tax returns to make sure you ain't stiffing them, what a racket.

I'm in the wrong business, I need to start a religion.

I have never been to a church that wanted or required any certain tithe. It has always been up to the giver. We have many families in our church that don't give anything and other that give a ton. We are a 10% tithing family by choice.

Just did a google search, ran into this gem:

https://www.lds.org/manual/doctrine-and-covenants-student-manual/section-110-121/section-119-the-law-of-tithing?lang=eng

Man, that's hard core... LDS calls tithing a "celestial law"...

Further, it also states (paraphrasing here), God knows if you're being a tightwad and your eternal inheritance will depend on your opening of ye wallet.

Ya... anyway, 10% is a lot... at least they only want the net.

I think the biggest amount of bull**** is the "Mandatory Tithe" that most EU states have. My buddy was telling me that in Germany, you literally have to declare your religion and then the government taxes you extra and reallocates it to the church you belong to. Otherwise you must write a formal declaration stating you are no longer a member of that faith.

I know this may not be a popular subject on these boards given all the manly-men and strong women, but curious of everyone's thoughts and to see if I can get any serious responses.

To head off the storm...I know..."Prayers"

I have really struggled with my overall mental health over the last few years and it seems to be only getting worse. I really struggle with worry/anxiety/stress/general happiness, to the point now where it is really interfering with my day to day life and doing my job. I know I should just be a man, suck it up, rub some dirt in it...but unfortunately this thought process doesn't get me far.

What are some of the ways you deal with these sort of issues other than smoking cigars, drinking, counting your blessings and prayer?

My doctor started me on Effexor but it definitely isn't working, at least at the low dose I am on. I go back next week to discuss how it has worked. Most likely they will just up the dosage for the time being.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hank. I have experience with this. Western medicine will not help you because medical doctors only treat the symptoms with a pill and not get to the root cause. This is because the pharmaceutical companies have a monopoly on "health" care and want to keep you sick. If you're not sick, they don't make money. They use hot chicks as pharmaceutical reps to wine and dine the doctors and give them studies (funded by Big Pharma) to show the drug's "effectiveness." Now, everyone reading this will say, "This guy is a conspiracy theorist." Sorry, but we spend the most out of any other developed nation on health care, have the most expensive health care system in the world, yet we're the sickest and unhealthiest country in the world! What does that tell you. Below is the solution.

A couple of things are going on here, and they're easily fixed. First and foremost, you have a gut flora issue. Your gut is 80% of your immune system. Research has found that the probiotic Lactobacillus rhamnosus had a huge effect on GABA (an inhibitory neurotransmitter that is significantly involved in regulating many physiological and psychological processes) levels in certain brain regions and lowered the stress-induced hormone corticosterone, resulting in reduced anxiety and depression-related behavior. So get a good probiotic. The one I use is a multi-strain probiotic from InnovixLabs (check Amazon). I don't know if you have a blender, but you can also get some chocolate protein powder (gluten free), almond or coconut milk, and a good GI (gasto-intestinal) repair powder (I use Leaky Gut Defense from Pure Theraputics...again see Amazon). Mix together with some powdered peanut butter (gluten free) and you have a very tasty shake!

You also probably have a vitamin D3 and B12 deficiency. Get a really good D3 supplement and check out Beyond Tangy Tangerine 2.0 from Youngevity. It's the best multivitamin you can buy. It's a bit pricey but worth it! If money is tight, find something in your budget. But you need a multivitamin that has a ton of B12 in it. I'm not talking about One-a-Day that you get at CVS or RiteAid either. It's like consuming rocks. Ignore all the medical doctor BS about vitamins being a waste of money or dangerous. Vioxx killed over 60,000 people and Merck is still in business! How many people has vitamins killed??? Use Amazon and read reviews.

Now for your diet. You have gut issues mostly because you're consuming things like gluten and probably dairy as well. Baby steps though. Your body won't absorb the probiots or vitamins if your gut is inflamed. You need to eliminate gluten. That's no wheat, barley, rye, or oats. Sorry, but you'll be buying Omission beer from now on, or something else that's gluten free. Wine is great too. Gluten is like poison ivy to your intestines. You can buy gluten free bread, pretezels, chips and all kinds of other ****e that you can think of. It's not as daunting as you would think. If you don't cut out gluten, you most likely won't feel better. Your body will stay inflamed and your anxiety will stick around.

I hope this helps. Let me know if there's anything else I help with. Oh, and I almost forgot...GO BLUE!

I actually already take D3 and B12 supplements. haha.

I spoke at length with my gastro doctor and he advised based on testing I don't have any aversions to gluten. He said it wouldn't be worth it to take it out of my diet.

Thanks for the help though. I probably should get back on a probiotic. I used to take them but just got out of the habit.

Hank...we got the same bad advice from our Gastro doctor. My daughter has Hashimoto's so we all know about gluten intolerance. And it's not just in people with Celiacs or Hashimoto's. Hope you have the time to go on YouTube and search for "Dr. Edward Group gluten" and have a look. The video is called "Everything you need to know about gluten." It's 38 minutes out of your life. Glad your mother in law's biopsy came back negative and cancer free! Good luck in your journey. If things don't change for the better for you, feel free to ping me.

I tried to do the gluten free thing once before and almost went broke. Unfortunately where we shop (Aldi) they don't have much in way of gluten free foods. So I had to shop at a major chain and all their stuff is crazy expensive. Grocery bill doubled. Plus it is super hard to make separate meals for me when we have 5 other mouths to feed in our house.

Gluten free is easier than you think. You do not need to buy "gluten free". Eat unprocessed meat, fresh or frozen vegtables, and fresh or frozen fruit. The biggest hardship is no bread.

This is correct. The hardest part is having the entire family go gluten free.
