and John turned it into a RAOK, typical behavior for which he has become famous.

On the whatcha smoking thread, John posted Pierson Geoffreys, and then asked if anyone had heard of them...I fell into the trap and replied a simple "no".

I'll send ya a couple says he...yadda yadda yadda...

He sent a couple, and they appear to be beautifully constructed with high end wrappers. One appears to be a robusto 5 x 50 and says perfecto with a milk chocolate wrapper and the other says Estilo Cubano (2006) on the band, has a darker wrapper, an dseems to be 6 x 52.

But of course he sent hitchhikers, an AVO Classic #2 (always smooth) a Graycliff with a gray band (anyone?) and an AF Flor Fina 858 Sungrown, how sweet is that?

What have we learned here? Nancy Reagan was wrong if she was thinking of Jespear when she advised to Just Say No. Though it's likely even "yes" would have prompted him to send a gift.

Thanks John. You have treated me well once again my friend.

Frank

If it has a yellow g2 it is a g2. If the band is silverish with a g it is a 30 year vintage. The wrapper is a 30 year old African wrapper.

30 year vintage it is, and about to become smoke history.

Think I'll pop open my bottle of Gran Duque Dalba Solera Gran Reserva.
Never had either but just came home from a great meal and these two should cap off a beautiful evening.

Allen, care to weigh in on what I will be drinking (or jerez in general) and I'll catch up on my reading later...

A very interesting brandy. Jerez is actually a Sherry region, but this brandy carries the Jerez demarcation. That is because it uses Palomino and Aires grapes. And it is matured in a Soler system. The grapes are Sherry grapes, Palomino is the primary Sherry grape. The Solara system is where many vintages are blended together. This is very traditional with fine Sherries. Another interesting note is that after blending, this Brandy is aged in Oloroso Sherry casks. My guess is it will have a very rich velvety feel to it. Oloroso is a very rich Sherry, off dry. So you could literally have 50 vintages blended in.

you nailed it!

I'm not really a brandy/cognac guy, but this was great. I have had a rum that was finished in Jerez sherry barrels, and I believe one of the Glenmorangies spends some time aging in them as well (Lasanta?). Maybe not.

The Graycliff was also superb, thank you again John.

smoked the Pierson Geoffreys milk chocolate perfecto tonight.

smoked very well, very tight, long ash, a little wrapper split 2/3 in but not an issue. Hint of white pepper up front that disappeared an inch in, pretty much one note tobacco (not a bad thing) the rest of the way and hung in just a hair below and right at medium strength the rest of the way.

all in all, a pleasure. Went very well with Plantation 5 Year Barbados rum...much obliged John.
