Just finished making this yesterday, giving it to the local B&M to replace one of their existing ashtrays. Weighs about 14 pounds, stands 3.5in high and 13.5in wide. All around the rim you'll see holes, those are Braille cells that say 'Mickey Blake's'.

If you're in CT and want to meet the ashtray face to face, let me know and we'll share a smoke.

Had a lot of fun, hope the shop likes it!

Southington, about a mile from the B&M where I'm a member. I can bring a guest every week, let me know if you want to come.

Pretty clean pass on the inside seam. Nice work

I'm guessing that was Mig?

Are you a Lincoln or Miller man?

You should, it'll be fun. I tend to go down a couple times a week, my schedule is flexible.

I never could Tig worth crap. Tig welding is truly an art.

I'm not much of a welder. I can throw down a bubble gum pass. My best set up would be a Mig gun with gas. Flux core isn't bad but messy.

I worked for a gas and supply company for years and that's how I picked up the very little knowledge I have.

Stick and Tig.....I liked Lincoln.
Mig...I couldn't tell much difference.

I did learn that Lincoln has a stronger presence in the south while the same for Miller up north.

Tig was what I tried first, so when I bought my own machine last year I made sure to get one for TIG. The welder I bought does MIG, TIG, and Stick, but I haven't even tried the MIG or Stick yet. There's still a lot for me to learn about TIG before I move on!

A few years back I had a project for Red Wing Shoes, needed to build a shelf entirely out of wrenches but had no welding equipment. Ended up in the Solar Car shop at MIT during a school break. They had a massive Lincoln that, honestly, didn't like me. That machine and I were not friendly at all. I had never tried a Miller before I bought one, an oversight that didn't hit me until well after the purchase, but I've been real happy so far.

I have noticed the lack of Lincolns around here; mostly I see Esab, Hobart, and the big blue Millers.

I'm a big fan of blue for finer work.

My Lincoln stick welder is a workhorse, but it's rarely used. I've probably struck it twice in the last 8-10 years.

I have a cheap Clarke too for portable Flux core MIG don't have to worry much about it and it still does decent work. Not gonna win any awards, but it's light and cheap, so it goes with me to the racetrack. Last week used it to fab a new awning bracket at my campsite while out camping. Got me home, but now Im making a pretty bracket.

Not a big fan of Flux core mig, but can't argue with the portability.

I love being able to fab stuff up on the fly, such a good feeling. I'm the fix-it guy around here and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I love the ashtray it is kind like Steam - Punk Art, and for those who say if the guy who made em was closer you would want one. Consider a U.S.P.S. Priority Flate Rate Box. Up to 70#'s shipped for a flat - rate.

Not sure if this big guy would fit in any of them! Haven't tried, though.
