First day of my restructuring unemployment, took a walk in the forest that flanks a small river through the prairie near my home.

Found a deer carcass spread around about a hundred foot area, ribs here and there, spine there etc. Looked for the skull hoping to score some antlers!

There is a small spring about a half mile in from the road that I'd like to sample someday, need to create a temporary cofferdam....

This Cubao had a nicely yellowed cello, I had a good retrospective walk.

Hi Ho!

Sounds like the 'Yotes were busy on that deer.

I always enjoy those lone walks to relax and retrospect, especially this time of year before the ticks, deer fly and skeeters are out.

Keep on keepin on!

Cicadas are out after 17 years. I hate walking in the woods when all you can hear is their buzzing. Argggg.

As a fly fisherman, that's music to my ears along a trout stream. All the big ones are on the prowl for the large protein nuggets as they struggle on the surface. Trout hit them like a smallmouth hits a popping bug!

With 3-4 sections of interconnected prairie I know of two small herds of deer, could be the same group?
'Yotes are around for sure as we spot them in the neighborhood occasionally.

Good for you. Enjoy and appreciate your quiet time while you can. You will be back at the grind before you realize it.

We hear the yotes not far from our house. They run the train tracks frequently and I've seen lots of their tracks when I used to walk around down there. Never did find a den though.

Solitary walks in a natural setting are my favorite way to relieve stress and recharge...even better while smoking a good cigar...
