In my cigar journey, I've tried PAM 24-40th, God of Fire series B, Liga Privada #9, and a couple of other high dollar and highly regarded smokes. These are the most prominent ones I see people raving about, and being held in high esteem by various posters while commanding a high price.

However, I find more flavors and satisfaction in what I consider to be more general smokes, well thought of - but nobody is praising them like the headliners I mentioned above such as;

Most tat 10th Anniversary, some other tats, most Coronado, most Illusion that I have smoked, several Viaje and a couple of very flavorful other smokes are more enjoyable to me than the headliners I mentioned earlier.

The higher dollar ones are more refined and smoother but it's like the flavors are muted. They are quite good cigars, even better than quite good.

But, it's like they are lacking some flavors - it's like the flavors I enjoy are refined out. They are very refined and nice smokes but are missing flavors that I enjoy.

Is that just me?

or do others have a similar experience?

Says the guy who eats Hamburger Helper.

Smoke what you like. Many high $ smokes are overrated and dumbasses fall over eachother to buy them. Me?

I don't even smoke the cigars I win here! I just buy them so others can't have them.....I smoke cubans after lighting them with hundred dollar bills. Doughnutboy2000 thought it was sickening but I love it.

Serious answer......nothing wrong with what you like. There are a few I like better than some of the expensive AF's. Don't worry about it. Be thankful! You won't have to pay as much as others.

The other factor here is that your tastes will probably change, unless you been smoking for quite a while. Smoke what you like. Who cares what others smoke.

After smoking a PAM 24, 40th anniversary cigar today - while it was nice, I enjoyed the next cigar, a Room 101 Namakubi Ecuador Cigars Papi Chulo 4x42 noticeably more.

Then it dawned on me, remembered similar experiences with Liga 9, and God of Fire, series B.

They all seemed muted in flavors compared to a Tat 10th anni noella, Coronado corona, and a number of smaller ring gauges I frequently smoke.

The more I think about it, all of the cigars that were higher dollar and disappointed me were only available in larger ring gauges.

Perhaps that is a big part of it, because now that I am into smaller ring gauges larger ring gauges seem more muted to me in flavor compared to the smaller sizes.

May well be that I now am so used to the smaller ring gauges that most of the larger ring sizes just won't cut it for me now.

ETA for clarity.

The PAM, Liga 9, GOF b were all really nice smokes. They just didn't do as much for me flavor wise as what I normally smoke, and were disappointing, Particularly when you factor in price.

To each his own. Everyone has a different taste profile.
If you've never had escargot, you should at least try it, if it doesn't suit you taste, then you don't need to try it again. However, I love it, and I'll sing its praises and think the rest of the world should share my love of that particular flavor. If hamburger helper is in your 'wheel'house, then great, but don't choke down escargot just because it's expensive and everybody else thinks it great, so you can say 'look at me' I can spend money. Do not, however, forever leave it off your menu. Consider how many things you at one time in you life you did not like the flavor of, and now do. Your palette constantly evolves, don't force yourself to jump on the bandwagon and succumb to the marketing hype and fall in line with what everyone seems to think you should like, or be able to afford to smoke, drink, eat, or drive. You might go buy a sports car so you can say you have it, but if you don't like to drive it, what's the point? I drive mine every day because I like to drive really, really **** fast and I love to drive it. Live life, carpé diem, to each his own.

Wit is necessary in communion only with the common folk. Brevity with the others. Verbosity with those only so inclined.

I like the Series V Melanio Maduro, really nice smoke. And the only thing over 50 rg, I can think of at the moment that I like.

Got some PAM 64's in the wineador, haven't had one yet. Will try to get to one soon.

Good point! Some of my favorites are only available in small sizes (like the awesome Cohiba a buddy of mine sent to outdo Santa!) I guess it depends how much of the larger size is just filled up with volado or other low-priming filler. Either that, or I'm just too old to smoke one cigar for two hours without getting bored... I find that maduro wrappers overwhelm the nuances of a lot of cigars like the ones you mentioned. See if you like a PAN 26 or T-52 better.

The other thought is that Tats, Viajes, and illusiones aren't really that much cheaper in terms of MSRP, just a little easier to find good deals on.

PAM 64's and olivas MB3s are the best "expensive" smokes Ive had (assuming you are considering $12^ expensive) to me this is average price for a really good stick. Once you venture into the $20+ range then your argument is starting to become a little more valid, but $10-20 smokes arent expensive. The others you listed in the $20+ range definately are expensive and should taste like a magical rainbow unicorn that sheets brownie icecream sundays just pooped in your mouth and the only thing you have to wash it down is its p!ss which of course would be hawaiian coffee.

Enjoy your brownie sunday sir Beer

Expensive varies by person. To me, anything over $ 7 a stick is too expensive. There are many sticks in the $2-3 range that give me great enjoyment. The money goes up in smoke anyway.

I've never had a PAM 24. But PAMs come in ring gauges in the 45 range for around 12$. Try those.

I've been thinking about this since you posted it.

When I first came here I smoked big ring, long and maduro, everything I bought was maduro or I didn't buy it.

Now my tastes have changed to where I smoke small ring gauges, often shorter than 6 inches, because that is about what smaller ring gauges come in except for lanceros. No many lonsdales around.

While I still like a maduro now and then in various cigars - they are probably less than 10% of what I have on hand and half of them are anejos.

Without realizing it, and simply buying more of what I like - probably less than ten % of what I buy is now maduro.

I was not aware of that shift until you made the post, I started thinking about it and checked the spreadsheet.

My wife says I have a way of being oblivious to the obvious at times Herfing
