I have a friend back in the states who is acting as my Power of Attorney for signing and initialing documents and forms regarding the sale of my house. He will also go to the Closing and take care of that.

Once it's all said and done I want to give him something for his time and effort. He already has a full humidor, and new ashtray, a new lighter, etc... I want to give him something not cigar related. He's married with two teenage girls.

I'm thinking I'll just write a nice check and send it to him along with a thank you card.

Any thoughts on that? cash? gift card? gift? an autographed photo of myself? ;-) heheh...

What's your budget?

Does he have hobbies or favorite pastimes?

Where's your house?

What are his musical tastes? New music is almost always appreciated? Does he do vinyl? A gift cert to a place that specializes in vinyl is always appreciated if he's into that sort of thing.

Other hobbies? An Eagle Rider gift card if he likes to ride motorcycles but doesn't have one, or for traveling....oh wait, that's for me!

If he travels noise cancelling headphones was one of the best purchases I ever made, and being given some would be a great gift. They start about $125 for decent no-name ones and go up to the Bose high end stuff.

Well, let's see. He has a motorcycle, a BMW, and mostly uses it to go on trips to the mountains. He collects guns and watches. His guns and watches stuff is out of my money range. Don't know much about motorcycles or what he might need for that..

I'm thinking a check for $200 and a thank you card. Or, hey, maybe an eGiftCard from Cabelas.

Buy him a nice knife. If he is a city guy something small and good looking like a Spyderco Balance. Outdoor type something larger like a Spyderco Butch vallotton Sub Hilt folder.

Another alternative, a really nice pen.

We have a winner. The chance to go to the dealership without SWMBO getting bent about hit to the budget (on top of cigars, knives.....) is always a treat. What I use my Harley card chrome cash for!

I like this.

It is more personal than a gift card.

Plus, if you get him a really nice knife, he will have it around for many years and every time he looks at it or uses it, he will think "my good buddy got me this for taking care of him"

Just take care in the selection, and it hopefully will become a treasured momento to him.

I forgot to mention he has a knife collection too. Talks about the steel and the processes for making the things, etc.... same with the watches and weapons and motorcycle. Anything I would pick out would be a nice gesture and end up in a drawer. Whistle

I think the Cabela's eGiftCard or maybe a gift certificate to a good steakhouse and maybe a separate check.

The hooker thing might've been good back in college, but I'm pretty sure his wife could take him out now! (..not on a date!)

Update: The closing happened. My friend took care of all the signing and initialing. (I am no longer a homeowner or mortgage payer or utility payer or insurance payer or lawn maintenance payer or car owner or gas buyer... etc.) =d>

I asked him if he had a paypal account. He said, what for? I said I wanted to send him a little sumpin' for helping out. He wouldn't hear of it. (Paypal would be quick. Sending a check would take about 2 weeks to get there.)

He reminded me that I had given him my other humidor, about half full of cigars, back before I left.

So, we called it even. I also had helped him rebuild his deck.

Don't have room in my BQ room for that one and this one: (which is on a barge heading this way)

He is a collector, need to find him a new habit to feed his need.
There are some great looking vintage Fountain Pens out there for not a ton of money.
Search the web, you can even find new old stock of many pens made in the 50's, sometimes with orignal packaging.
PM me, I will send you a web site for new and vintage pens.

Also my son got me a watch winder from Orbita, space is always an issue but i have in corner with one of my other watches on it.
They make singles to multi unit towers for real collectors.

Yep. That was back in early 2012. Then in Jan 2013, I got laid off from that job in Texas. I was unemployed from Jan thru Aug.

The company is a software company and they decided to start outsourcing everything that wasn't directly related to the software: HR, Payroll, IT, etc...

I think they actually just got rid of me and hired a younger, better looking, smarter guy than me. Think

The interesting thing back out here on Kwaj is that the guy who was hired to replace me, when I left Kwaj to come back to the states, is the guy I replaced when I came back out here. Weird timing. I got my old job back. Got a little more money in the deal and a little less responsibility... well, so far.
