Playing football with the kids in the backyard... and stepped on an apple that fell from the neighbor's apple tree. WOWIE! My ankle went a way that it was not meant to go. "POP" and then I went down like a sack of potatoes. It didn't hurt until I tried to walk on it.

My son told me to walk it off and tough it out, my daughter was more compassionate.

They both made me laugh with their response. As I sit with an ice pack on my ankle I can't help thinking... Nature vs Nurture.

I don't think I raised them any different (so far) but they both had different responses.

Think

HA! Didn't think of that.

Didn't go to Dr. That's for sick people. (wait a sec... don't ask anyone... because I probably qualify)

Probably should have had a professional check it out but I'm sure after sitting in an office or ER for 2 hrs the Doc would just say... "Elevate it, put ice on it and alternate Tylenol and Advil as needed for pain and swelling. Thanks for stopping in."

Kipp, you make me laugh. You're a good doobie. That was an awesome bomb!

I'm still working on the Lemonheads. I'm down to a small handful of them. The gummy bears are a staple to calm my sweet tooth and they didn't last more than a week or so. I need to replenish.

you need an Ace bandage too. Sort of a figure 8 wrap. What color is your ankle now?

Sounds like my last nasty sprain. Hot, cold, hot, cold, ibuprofen (anti-inflammatory), elevation and an ACE bandage. ER can't do anything for you except charge you $150 for the ACE and Advil plus the doctor's fees.

Its hell to get old, you mind don't keep up with the body. You continue to run around thinking your still in your twenties or thirties but your body reminds you how old you really are. Don't laugh but I threw out mg back last week tucking in a fitted sheet on my sons bed. Just a little reminder from the body that I haven't been stretching lately.

Turns out to be a stress fracture. I'm a proud new owner of a new pair of crutches and a follow up with an orthopedist.

Somewhere in between the two of them the old saying "The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree" applies. Which one was closer to what you would have said had it happened to one of them?

Take care and rest up if you can.

I guess it depends on the situation. Skinned knee or simple bruise = rub some dirt on it. Taking a header off a bike or a swollen foot = more serious attention.

If the same incident happened to one of them it probably would have been a trip to the ER rather than wait until the next day. When it comes to my kids, I side with caution. I won't be as thick headed to seek professional help as I would when it happens to me.

I can be a stubborn **** at times... usually to a fault.

I find it easier to crawl around the house rather than use these stupid crutches. I've also found at this level you get a different perspective of the world. Hardwoods tend to collect lots of dust bunnies. I think the only thing dog hair doesn't stick to is the dog itself.

No death panel here, maybe just saw off the foot and cauterize the stump like they did in the old days. Same foot/ankle I broke sliding into 2nd base in college (booze) softball league. Urgent Care Doc says I'm probably 100% gonna get arthritis in that ankle when I get old.

(In my best Carl Spankler voice).. "So at least I got that goin' for me."

No. Just alternating Ibuprofen and Tylenol. The pain is not unbearable. Much discomfort if I put weight on it so I don't put weight on it.

he's known as Theodore, from my patio to Hawaii...wow.

Saw Robert mention RussianCrusher. He was a great one, almost got together once when he was at a conference in nearby Quincy, MA but couldn't make it work.
Wish we had.

Haven't had any real issues with it lately. Sometimes it has a dull ache to it. No real pain just a uncomfortable ache. It's not exactly the ankle joint itself, it's an inch or so above the actual joint on the fibula bone where the ache originates.
