Moved to Daytona Beach in 1980. I hung out in a bar on main street call the wreck bar. Greg Allman, Hughie Thomasson, from the Outlaws, Dave Hlubeck, and Danny Joe Brown, from Molly Hatchet, would jam there. You never knew when they would show up and jam..the Allman's lived here for a while and the outlaws started in Tampa, and Hatchett was from Jax.

I gotta say my all time favorite southern rock song is....................

Simple Man by Skynyrd -simple man! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pMzQsxtYEs

I agree! Being a Texan myself, saw Stevie ray at a small bar on 6 th street in Austin, when I was a younger man. The entire street stopped and followed the music. They where standing in the streets listening to him...
he was in a league of his own....beyond all the Southern rockers...
To many favorites of his to list, helllll I don't think he wrote or did a bad one....played "little Wing" better than Hendrix, lil sister, Texas Flood,....et al.

imagine what he would be doing/playing now if still alive......mmmm? Sad to think!

His version of Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) also rivals Jimi's. But as good as SRV was, for me, Jimi is still the #1 all-time rock guitartist. He influenced so many people and where he was gonna go with his music will also be a "What if..." question that can never be answered. I frickin' still remember where I was when I heard about his death just weeks after seeing him in concert here in Hawaii (...his last American show...).

Frank, if you'd found yourself at Idlewild for even a day, or even on Vineville Ave, you'd be even more certain.fog

I wish! Saw them in Boston only, several times,, pre and post the two tragic deaths, but have not seen them in many years despite numerous appearances almost every year. I might even have some stuff buried away somewhere that they did when called the Allman Joys!

I'm an Allman Brothers fan. .Butch Trucks (Allman Brothers drummer) was a couple of years ahead of me in high school. We were in the marching band, and I used to ride my bike to his house for drum lessons for 50 cents per hour! He's still going strong nearly 50 years later. His nephew, Derek Trucks is great too.

Wow, all of this flurry over Marshall Tucker, Allman Brothers, and Lynard Skynard. To be honest : all of them suck.

You want a DECENT southern rock group? Try Blackfoot: Wishing Well, Train Train, Highway Song.

But the best of them all is probably Train Train.

dude,,,

I have seen the Allman Bros several times and Duane by himself a couple,,,

Dickie and his red guitar are fantastic,,,

But
for a single song,,,

MTB has it,,,

wheel,

Wished I had asked Bill for more details. I don’t remember reading anything about Duane having a band totally separate from the Allmans. And other than 4 appearances with Derek & the Dominos, don’t know of him being a part of someone else’s touring band. Mebbe a guest appearance but not where he’s actually traveling city to city for an extended period.

Of course I could be wrong or just don’t remember….
