Ok, first of all, I KNOW I am a noob. Both here on this site, and to cigar smoking in general (always enjoyed smoking one now and then, but within the past 3 or so months have really started appreciating them).

Ahem....now that that is out of the way, i'll get down to brass tacks. I've recently found out my wife and I are expecting our first child. For this grand occasion, I think the need for ONE great cigar is in order. For this, cigar price is not a factor (obviously I'm not going to pay thousands for a stick, if there is even one worth that much...) so whatever your experts/vets think should be THE ONE, please post here.

I know everyone has there own tastes/preferences, so I'll keep a running tally here, and in about 6 months time, i'll pick the one who has the most votes. I might even post a pic of me smoking it in the delivery room!

Congrats! My wife and I just had our first child last month...

any cigar that YOU enjoy smoking will mark the occasion well...

I don't recommend buying one expensive cigar you've never had without having a pretty good idea of what you tend to like...

that being said, compliments of Al (delta) I was able to enjoy a DC Max #3 to mark the birth of our son and thoroughly enjoyed every second of it...

I smoked a Honey and Handgrenades the other day thanks to Steve (sd72) and would also highly recommend it...

I would also highly recommend not getting anything Gurkha, particularly the $750 cognac-soaked turd called the HMR...

Thanks and congrats to you as well sir! As for the Gurkha...I've got my fingers crossed that vote count doesn't go past 1 on that one!

The opelman said it the best - smoke what you enjoy. In the next few months you'll have a better perspective of what you like and your tastes today may not be the same down the road so take your time. I think the bottom line will be you smoking a cigar that you'll want to come back time and time again to remember that special moment.

Lastly, congratulations and best of luck! ThumpUp

Get yourself a box of Cuban cigars. Something sorta mainstream that, as your palate develops, you're unlikely to dislike. Boli CG/BBF, Monte 2, PSD4....something along those lines. Crack the box and enjoy one on the day of the birth of your first born. Then, another on each of his or her birthdays - By their 18th, you'll still have enough to smoke with them for a few birthdays - Many birthdays, if you choose a 50 count cab of something ....maybe H Upmann 46's.

+1 on this idea. Monte #2 or Edmundo's. Cohiba VI or Genios.

First congrats. My wife and I are expecting our 2nd child mid August. What I did was buy a box of cigars and plan on smoking one one his birthday every year. I went with CyB Lonsdale Club for they are great and I won a box for under a hundred bucks. 21 in a box so I hope to one day smoke one with him or even sneak one every now and then.

Congrats!

So many good cigars mentioned here.

It doesn't matter what you smoke. The moment will be remembered long after what you smoked is forgotten.

such an awesome idea. I wish I was into cigars when my son was born. I suppose better late than never. We're only going to be a couple years in.

I doubt he smoked one in the delivery room. Hope he knew more about babies than he did about cigars
