Not being an expert thought I would ask for some help. I compared to pics on line and most of the bands look good, but the construction does not seem good enough and the triple caps are pretty. They are from the island, even if not real so I will try one. I think fake. What say you?

Herfing Herfing Herfing Just had smoked one the other day with the 2009-2010 limitada band on it. I looked up the vitolas but the shade was wrong. Smoked well, but no cuban. Herfing Herfing Herfing

Cant really tell from the pic but a couple things you can look for:1. are the dot all uniform and lined up. 2. The color of the yellow/orange in the bands should not vary. Just my .02

That is a bad pic. Damn. The bands color and lettering is right. It's the construction that has me worried. I guess I will know when I smoke one.

Crappy construction? It must be real.

Hopefully the construction won't be too big of an issue. I forget the Cohiba I smoked a couple years ago or so (posted a pic of it), small, petite corona-ish size (#4?), and came in a single cardboard coffin (box). The cigar was beat up pretty bad, most likely due to mishandling and neglect by the person who originally bought it. I posted a similar [bigger] pic asking "real or fake," and due to the shape it was in the replies went both ways and was pretty much inconclusive as I recall. However, it smoked wonderful and tasted great...and I would love to get my hands on some more. However Cohibas be mighty pricey, and I'd gladly settle for many other [cuban] brands for the money, even though it wouldn't really be "settling."

Hi
Another thing is to check the smell. Cuban cigar's typically have a unique smell kind of like horse S*&@..... Of course one can always light one up and then you will really know..

My one and only question (since viewing bands isn't an option due to pic) is source.

If u bought em private party, who knows? 50/50 is a safe guess...maybe 40(real)/60(fake) with the amount of fakes that have been sold on certain sites..

If u bought yourself, from an LCDH authorized Habanos dealer, you're likely sitting on the real deal.

Construction won't tell u much, as Cohibas can tend to have a rough appearance (save for the Behikes in my experience anyway).

2nd best bet...meausure em' (RG and length)...if they're off by more than 1/8", likely fake.

Hmmm, last time I asked someone if they were fake or real a girl punched me in the nose! So now I just mind my own business. He he.

Ok the first try was a Reserva. Plugged. Second try robusto even burn light smoke and harsh metallic taste. Way fake! Good thing they were gifted to me.

Kpp. A friend who owns a business gave them to me. His employee, a Cuban brought them back from a trip. Sketchy at best. I believe they are from the island, but absolutely horrible.

I have seen pictures of many of the newer cohiba's and I have never seen that reserva band. they do make a gold LE band but I am not sure about a black reserva

and some of those look to be a toro shape. You need to do some research on the available shapes. I smoked a "real" lancero the other day. It tasted like rolled up dog turds, but I still think it was real beacuse that's what my uncle said.Herfing

This is pretty much right on. It's fairly normal for size to vary slightly (even in the same box), but not a LOT. It's completely normal for wrapper shades to vary, just like with NCs. Most Cubans look pretty rough and veiny compared to NCs.

So unless things look waaay off or the bands are messed up or they smell weird, the source is the only clue you'll have prior to lighting one up!
