Hello everyone: Whitebeard here, longtime cigar smoker, new to this chatroom. I've been reading the postings here for quite some time and at last I have a question which some of you may be able to answer for me.
On Nov.25 my brother in law and I are going to attend the Big Smoke at the N.Y.Marriott. Have any of you been to a Big Smoke and can give suggestions as to how we will be able to make the best of the occasion? Are there things which we should avoid and also things we should't miss?
My goal in attending is to find a non-Cuban cigar which will compete with my current favorites which are 1)Cohiba Esplendido 2)RyJ Churchill and 3)Juan Lopez Corona-obviously aall Cuban.
If you don't want to reply here please reply to my email at [email protected] Thank you for your help.
Oldie but Newbie, Whitebeard.

check out post "Two questions" dated 11/2
your best bet is try to trade the bum coupons for some good smokes at one of the better booths...good luck it takes lots of negotiating.
just enjoy the evening, could be worse...you could be visiting your mother in law. LOL

Ok. let's see. I've been to about seven of them. First of all, wear something comfortable because it gets super crowded and super hot. Years ago, everyone wore a suit, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore, although most guys seem to dress up.
These shows are nowhere near the caliber they used to be. You used to come home with around 80-90 smokes. Good one too.Now if you get 30-35 you're lucky. Also, there used to be lots of great manufacturers there. Not the case anymore, but there are still a few. As far as missing anything, you'll get a coupon book. Just hand the manufacturer the coupon and you get a cigar. Simple. Walk around the floor, make sure you use all your coupons. There will be some food on the immediate right hand side when you enter. Hit that first. Fill up on some good grub and then off you go. There will be some liquor manufacturers. So don't be shy and have a few cocktails. There will be a few really good smokes there. This is a list of who should be there. Arturo Fuente Excalibur 1066 One Off
Ashton The Griffin’s Padrón
Astral Maduro H. Upmann 2000 Partagas Black
Avo Helix Placencia Organica Reserva
C.A.O. Indian Tabac Puros Indios
Carlos Toraño La Gloria Cubana Ramon Allones
Cuesta-Rey La Flor Dominicana Sancho Panza
Don Diego Macanudo Trinidad
El Rico Habano Onyx Reserve "The Cigar" Belicoso

Stay till the end. When it's time to get kicked out, go over to your favorite manufacturers and beg for a few extra's. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Last year I came home with about 5 CAO Brazil Gol's. It doesn't hurt to try. Have fun. I won't be there this time.
PS., there's always a few good looking girls handing out cigars. This is always a plus. Enjoy.

Begging for smokes? Doesn't sound like the classy evening CA portrays.

well donutboy, don't use your coupons or eat or drink anything and maybe you will feel a little classier.
