In the note I sent you that had the list of what I thought were some of the most outstanding cigars, you'll find the Odyssey is among them ... I got one at CB last spring with the intention of putting it in my humi until August when I included it among my birthday smokes .... I found it to be a medium bodied smoke that burned very evenly and was quite smooth from one end to the other ... typically, I like them a bit more full-bodied, but this was an exception ... I'd say it was a good special occasion smoke and because it comes in that little box, it would make a really primo gift for any serious cigar smoker

I have absoluely NO idea how I'd rate it numerically the way CI does, but it's gotta be right up there on any scale of measure

I really do not understand the obsession with resting cigars here. How do you know that that particular cigar has not been sitting in a vendors humidor for a year already? If you buy a box and find that a couple are harsh or taste bad then you may be able to improve it.

IMO you know it has been sitting for a year or two and you think it will be good and it is good because you are so psyched up about it. It probably would have tasted the same when you got it. New releases are probably fresh but they were not bundled yesterday.

Many of the brands they sell here have been sitting in a warehouse for years.

getyourown,

This had been my opion yet i did not know how to express it. It's good to know that i am not the only one who thinks like this. The only way I can think that leting the GARs sit is to have them party with the other smokes in your humidor for a few years and let them take on a very small flavor of some of your smokes that you have in your humidor.

He may not speak for everyone, but Sr. Fuente insists his cigars are ready to smoke when he releases them for sale.

The majority of what I smoke is rested briefly, if at all ... however, I will say that even smokes that I know for an absolute fact have been resting for a long period somewhere are, IMHO, improved by taking them out of their boxes and cello for a time ...

in the case of that Odyssey, I'd picked it up on the auction at what I felt was a pretty fair price with the intention of saving it for the birthday weekend smoke-a-rama and the resting was coincidental ...

If I keep it in the box that it came in in the dor, will that be a problem?

Most of the cigars I receive are too
dry for my liking. That's why I like to get them
out of the cello and box and let sit in the humi
for a while. Just a personal preference. Clark

Husky, your idea is recommended by a major cigar maker. Some people have humidors for storage and a humidor to get cigars ready for smoking. But I am referring to letting cigars rest for months or longer before you even try them, in an effort to improve their flavor.
Some of the best smokes I have had were taken right off the shelf and set on fire before the cigar had a chance to react. I removed most of the cello.

Getyourown, I would agree. Nothing like buying
a stick from the local shop and firing it up right there. Also, important to support the local guy.

GetYourOwn, You mean you remove the celo before you smoke them??? I'll have to try that.
