For me, quality and functionality always come before style and brand name recognition ... oh, I know, quality and functionality are most often dependably found in stylish name brands, but that's anything but a constant truth ...

I've got two Colibri lighters ... each less than a year old, each expensive, each very stylish, and each totally non-functional ...

Each is (or was at time of failure), still warrantied, but the expense, time and trouble of having the warranty made good exceeds by far, the cost of an inexpensive, no-name, guaranteed-for-life lighter I got at a convenient local store ...

For $10, I bought a lighter than works as well as or better than, any of the many I've ever owned ... if a problem develops, I stop at my local store ... they take it from my hand, drop it in the trash, take a new one from the display, re-set it so it won't develop that "first-refill" failure syndrome, refill it and put it in my hot little hand in less time than it takes me to write a check for my cigar purchase ...

So, while "The Pioneer" has zero name recognition and a great deal less prestige than Colibri, it cost me far less, works far better and has a much more positive guarantee than any I've ever had before ...

I have a Colibri extreme (CX-10 or 20 not sure); it's been on several camping trips, gotten wet, and dropped over a half dozen times--works like a charm. Got it here on C-bid at the same time I got my Prometheus stainless cutter.

Colibri ATL Golf lighter, and a Colibri Sport. I haven't had a problem with either. I've had the Sport more that 10 years too!

I have a nice prometheus. It gets clogged often. If I can't blow it loose I take it to the local shop and they put high pressure to it.

I have 4 Macanudo freebie BIC types that work all the time.

I see a lot of cylinder shaped torch lighters being used.

My Colibri Magnum is my favorite. It has a nice punch cutter on the bottom which comes in very handy. The torch hasn't let me down since and the cutter is still as sharp as the day I got it. However, I received a lighter from a very generous member of the Village Idiots which is an extremely close second. With the Village Iodiot logo, how can it not be?

I got a couple of something or another jet lighters here, $9.50 for the pair. The 1st one is still going strong and the second is still in it's box. I've refilled the 1st a dozen times and it still works fine. Cheap is good, if it doesn't work, toss it.

There was a $5 torch lighter that's all metal that worked really well at a cigar shop I go to and I bought it kinda used. Works better than any Colibri or and other I've used. Most of the cheap torches dont work log, but they are disposable just like a bic.

I got a couple torch lighters here and a flip top vertical torch with a double flame follow up thingie.
Couple of refills and they are still working fine. Didn't cost much....don't care if one breaks. I still have a few back ups I haven't opened yet.

My favorite one is one that works when i push the button..

My fav's are Prometheus, as for the clogging problem, make sure you're not using Ronson fuel or another similar bargain basement fuel, they have a lot of impurities in them and cause lighters to clog :(

Interesting, I have a Colibri Quantum Boss which I have been using on a regular basis for about 6 months now and have had no problems, other than some somewhat dull cutter blades... Anyone else have good luck with this lighter ??

in case no one mentioned it, no zippos. the lighter fluid ruins the cigars except for charlie. in his case they improve the taste.

My favorite is the Ill Corona Old Boy. Flint style, sand blasted briar with gold trim and it has never failed to light. One of my prized possessions.

Torches......I have a prometheus that's fairly reliable and quite a few cheapies lying around.

Call me a snob, but I love my Duponts. They last forever, work well, and look really nice. I have several of them I got off of ebay, some used and a couple brand new. Have had great luck with all of them.
