the other night NBC was showing National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and I could have sworn they cut out a very interesting part of the movie. well, the part that was cut wasn't interesting except for the fact that they seemed to have cut it. when the old woman is saying grace before the meal, she says the pledge of allegiance. well, in the version they aired, they all skip "under God." in the original don't they say "under God?" if anyone happened to record this with Tivo, check it out. i'm pretty sure i'm right. if i am right, why the hell would they do this? why edit out that part of the movie? that just doesn't make sense to me.

Excuse me, Lofty, didn't you say it was aired by NBC?

I just happened to have the DVD in the player from last week when my wife and I watched it. I went to that scene and what happened was aunt Bethany said the pledge but she skipped "under God" and went right to "indivisible", but you could hear others say "Under God". So, without seeing the TV version the other night I can't say whether or not anything actully got clipped.

BELLLCCCHHH!!!

"Ed, what's wrong with the NBC sensor?"

"Ohhh, he's just yackin' on a bone".

GHHARRKKK !!

"He's got it up... he's alright now."

MERRY CHRISTMAS

ahhhh. i thought i missed it in the movie. knowing that, i don't think NBC edited that part. i guess i was just quick to point out something like that given the recent news coverage.

nothing to see here. carry on.

Actually it is very possible that they never said "under god" at all... it wasn't until 1954 when the Catholic org. "The Knights of Columbus" petitioned congress to officially add "under god" into the pledge, making it botha public pledge and a public devotion of faith. However, there are some states that never added it (only congress officially added it for their proceedings)---so it is quite possible that the author of the script was just from one of those states.
