I've been wondering. Many people on the boards have some very strong opinions regarding John Kerry and the Anti-War movement in the 70s. How many of us lived through those times and how many of us developed our opinions from second hand information?

Too young to serve in vietnam, Old enough to remember.
Signing up for selective service was stopped 6 months before my 18th birthday. War ended in april I graduated in june
Then I decided to go into law enforcement rather than the army.

Draft number of 50 in '71. My strong negative feelings about Kerry are not so much his antiwar activities, although I certainly think he was over the line, as his record since then. He has opposed most of what I think has made the country strong and he has shown no leadership (see post on bills he authored). Is it not ironic that a man with 20 years in the Senate had to define himself during 3 45 minute debates? After 20 years I would expect to know what he stands for.

I lived through the times and remember his actions and statements very well ... and it sickens me to think he's where he is right now ...

W isn't an ideal President by any means, but he is FAR better than Kerry would be ... hell, for that matter, an Irish Setter would be better than Kerry.

I was young during that timeframe but paid attention to it since I lost an Uncle in Vietnam. This was on his second tour while Kerry could not even complete one.

I was two young at the time to serve, I had a couple Uncles and Cousin's who served during Vietnam...

I like Canyon... 20+ yrs in the Senate and this man (Kerry) wants to ride on his 4 month war record in vietnam... it makes a person who served and knows what military life is all about wonder who the hell this guy really is... So I took the time to find out... viewed and posted for others to see the real POS...

His Senate record alone is Anti American, his 4 1/2 month tour in vietnam was nothing but a political gain/ploy for him from the get go....

He came home from Vietnam and there is documented Proof he **** on his fellow Veterans and then 30 yrs later wants to call them Brothers in Arms and play a war hero to get to the White House?? what a crock of Cr@p this guy is... he hasn't changed in 30+ yrs... he played the system to get out of doing his full tour of duty, he played his politics trump card through the system for 20+ yrs as a do nothing Senator and he will play the system as a do nothing president if he becomes elected... his stripes do not change..

I've got my differences with Bush and some of his Administration, but to weigh the two evils... Bush is the lessor...

I served my Country that I love, Honorably as a career military... every time there was a call to arms and needing vounteers to fill it.. my name was on the list... I didn't look for medals, I didn't look for a way to get out of going... I went in feet first with a strong heart on how I feel/felt about my homeland with the knowing that God would get me through the best and the worst of the situation... through the Years I've seen people just like Kerry in the ranks, and it makes me sick to even hear his voice!!!!

you take all the above away... turn on the TV in the next coming days... and listen to a whole speach from this A$$ Clown... Read his "Our Plan" you can download it from his website... He doesn't have a plan.. he's one of the worst talking heads in the front line today... he plays on peoples emotions and feelings and is blowing smoke up everyone's a$$ doing so....

what has he said that Bush hasn't done or is doing right now, that he is going to do?

Get a stronger coalition for the war in Iraq?? what country's are going to jump in there that are not already there? "None"
What Country has it been forefront through the years of any War, Crisis, Police Action??? America Has...

what policy has John Kerry ever been for that America Benifited from??

Sorry bout the rant and I do not want to threadjack any longer... but just ask yourself... what has this guy done in his senate career and what did he really do while in Uniform for this Country???

Gee, Hog, don't hold back. Tell us what you really think!

Hi Bass,
Firsthand for Me. I was in DC during the 1971 "Days of Rage". The weekend when the Vets Against The War threw their medals. Saw cops on horseback and in riot gear clubbing people for no good reason. When they used RFK Stadium for a holding cell. A scary time when good rational people on both sides went overboard.

EI and I must be the same age. Old enough to remember well, too young to sign up for the draft by scant months.

Too young.
I base my info on his Senate duty, and I'm from Massachusetts so I've seen his lack of action for many years now.
It's difficult to define him because he always has been wishy washy.
I dislike my senior senator as well, but at least I know where he stands. Kerry has NEVER been strong on any issues of substance.
If he approached his time in the senate with half the fervor that he fought the Viet Nam war, then he'd be a shoe in next week. Regardless of his stance, he'd at least be SOMETHING.
As it stands now, he is nothing. And I may be giving him too much credit for even that.

EI, Wolf, and I are about the same age.
My # was around 324 on the last "lottery".

Rastas, you were there?! Do you remember anything else? How about Resurrection City- a shanty town set up around the reflecting pool (behind the Washington Monument)? I've been in the DC area since 1966.

OK... I'm going to age myself now... LOL

I enlisted in May of '69 because I had just screwed up a job I had, and I figured that they were going to draft me pretty soon anyway. Also, entering the Army was something that I had wanted to do since early High School, and I am/was pround to serve my Country! After I enlisted and had completed my Basic and AIT, I was home on leave heading for my first perminant duty station. At that time, they instituded a new draft (re-pulled all of the "dates") and my number came up as 317. I never would have had to go if I hadn't enlisted, but I was glad to be in serving my Coundtry during a time of war!

I remember all of the anti-war protests, especially the one during the Democratic Nomination in '68. What a mess THAT was. I also remember Watergate and that crook "Tricky Dicky" Nixon!

OK, enough depressing political memories. LOL

Hey Blood,
We must be the same age. I was in the last lottery too. I remember Resurection City and the other events of those days. For " Days of Rage" I was 16 years old and hitchiked by myself from Eastern Long Island to be there. I did not agree with the obstuctive tactics planned but wanted to see first hand the historic events of our times and show my opinion by my presense. Seems about 300-400 thousand other folks felt the same way.

So far as Military service I did not serve. I spent a day once in the marine recruiters office and was ready to sign but decided to talk to my Dad first. As,of course, My Father and an Inactive Marine His words made me consider my choices and I did not enlist.

I was bunked in a tent in a compound near Da Nang when I was informed my enlistment had been extended 4 months, the same amount of time Kerry served out his three booboos. I have nothing but contempt for the man.

If I were consumed with hatred for Bush the way some of you are, I would vote for the Libertarian candidate, or Ralph Nader, or the Green Peace candidate. ABK.

LLT. Thank You. Thank You and all the other enlisted men and women whos courage and sacrifice have allowed me to express my beliefs. I honor and respect the people who, then and now, risk their lives for the values and ideals we cherish as Americans.

I have issues with the leaders that abuse that courage and sacrifice in pursuits less nobel than the warriors.
