Thinking About Going On A Cruise

My bride and I will be married 20 years this coming June. My bride wants to take an "american history" cruise along the Mississippi on a paddle wheeler. We've never done anything this extravagant in our lives, but 20 years of putting up with me deserves something lavish.

I have questions:
[1] has anyone here taken a domestic cruise and how was it?
[2] after paying thousands of dollars for the cruise, I know there are still extras, the question is: was the cruise still worth it for you?
[3] any other comments about cruises that you think would be helpful in deciding whether to take one.

Thanks.

Cruises are great.... The extras are the shore excursions and the bar bill... Drinks are not included and you don't pay as you go. you use your room card. and get the bill at the end of the trip.
That can be some surprise when most drinks are around 6 bucks a pop.

If you take a water bottle filled with rum you can get a pretty good buzz on the fruit punch they serve.
But you cannot take liquor on the boat for consumption on the boat. (just like a football game)
I have been on Carnival, Norwegian and the one with the big X on the smoke stack cant place the name at the moment.
Carnival is the most fun.. Norwegian had the best food
and open seating/open times for dinners
Look early and get good deals and cabins up grades
We are going on a 7 day cruise in 2 weeks to the eastern carribean on carnival... another thing is IO think carnival is the only line with a topless deck on each ship.. A great place to smoke an ISOM and look out over the sea. sea of flesh that is

EI, domestic cruises are far from the ones you have been on. They are also typically much more expensive, but the food is top notch and the accomodations are five star. Many run through Baton Rouge and I've had the pleasure of seeing the boats. They are not for partiers, but for the more refined individual in their golden years. From what I have heard they are very relaxing and you'll be surprised in discovering things you didn't know about our country. Camper is the one you are looking at on the Miss. River?

My mistake... and that does sound interesting.
On a slightly different subject
Has anyone take the American Orient Express, The train that follows the rails along the northwest from Chicago to Washington or Oregon.
It sounds much like the paddle wheel cruises but on rails
I saw a PBS special on it several years ago

The cruise my bride wants to take does go through Baton Rouge. And Nachez and New Orleans.

I like the "refined" part, but I'm a little worried about the "golden years" part. We're only 43, so will we be the young'uns if we take this boat?

LOL....It really is a class-filled excursion. But, yes, you will be in the "younger" crowd. I will say one thing, it will be one helluva setting to enjoy great smokes while taking in the culture of the river.....sunsets with a single barrel on the rocks while tokin' on a ISOM.......now I'm jealous!!!!
