Kerry Clings to 'Missing Explosives' Story on Tuesday
By Susan Jones
CNSNews.com Morning Editor
October 26, 2004

(CNSNews.com) - Speaking in Wisconsin Tuesday morning, Sen. John F. Kerry continued to blast the Bush administration for its "failure" to secure explosives at an Iraqi military facility -- ignoring reports that those explosives already had vanished by the time U.S. troops arrived at the al-Qaqaa facility in April 2003.

"Yesterday we learned that nearly 380 tons of powerful conventional explosives vanished from one of Iraq's most sensitive military installations after the invasion," Kerry said Tuesday morning at a campaign stop in Wisconsin.

Monday's New York Times headlined news of the missing explosives, suggesting that the U.S. government ignored warnings to secure them. The Kerry campaign described the "failure to secure" the explosives as an example of the Bush administration's "stunning incompetence."

But on Monday night, NBC News said it had a reporter embedded with U.S. troops when they arrived at the al-Qaqaa facility -- one day after the fall of Baghdad -- and the explosives already were gone by then.

Tuesday's New York Times noted that its story about the missing explosives had become a campaign issue -- one that the Kerry campaign continues to promote, as it turns out.

In his Tuesday morning stump speech, Kerry said that President Bush "has failed in his fundamental obligation as commander-in-chief to make America as safe and secure as we ought to be."

This morning on the "Today Show" Senator Saxby Chambliss (sp?) said essentially the same thing to Katie Couric who tried desperately to deny what her own network had reported.

The media bias isn't concious on their part. The Bernard Goldberg book ("Bias" is the title, I think) points that out. The very nature of network and newspaper people is to lean left - some harder than others. When this is pointed out, those same left-leaning reporters deny bias because all their friends and colleagues lean the same way and so their bias looks normal to them.

....and ol'GW doesn't lie?

LMFAO!

Tell that to the families of the fallen men and women of Operation Iraqi Freedom!

BTW, can someone please explain to me GW's close friendship with the Bin Laden family?....seriously, I want to see how this is/was a lie from the right's point of view (you may have to pull your head from the sand).

Sonny this is about misleading the public one week from an election and even you should be appalled by that.
And as far as Bush's ties with bin laden.

He owned stock in the same company bin ladens family did.
So what.
Even the family has cut off ties with bin laden

What about Clintons ties to bin laden.. he was given his head on a silver platter and refused to take it.

It just appears that you buy into all these lies and refuse to look for the truth

I though better of you

John Kerry (and the NY Times and other liberal media) are giving the impression that these weapons went missing recently and U.S. troops were derelict in their duty to guard the stockpile ... NEITHER of which is even remotely true.

But, network and cable news programs repeated the report and Sen. Kerry's attacks more than 100 times on Monday.

But, last night, NBC "Nightly News" reported that on April 10, 2003 (!!), one day after Baghdad fell, U.S. troops entered Al Qaqaa, accompanied by an embedded reporter from NBC, and found no such weapons.

It also turns out that our troops have found and destroyed or are destroying 400,000 tons of weapons and explosives.

There was no mention of either one of these facts in the New York Times front page story, which regurgitated yesterday's charges and Senator Kerry's attacks based on them.

Bottom line: Kerry is a lying weasel who will stop at nothing, but will stoop to ANYTHING in order to be elected ...

It's October, but it's no surprise. Remember last week, when I highlighted a quote by Newsweek editor Evan Thomas that the media's desire to see John Kerry elected may be worth five-to-twenty million votes, and urged you to be on the look-out for evidence of that desire in articles and news programs?

Well, yesterday the front page of New York Times featured a flawed article asserting, "The Iraqi interim government has warned the United States and international nuclear inspectors that nearly 380 tons of powerful conventional explosives -- used to demolish buildings, make missile warheads and detonate nuclear weapons -- are missing from one of Iraq's most sensitive former military installations. The huge facility, called Al Qaqaa, was supposed to be under American military control but is now a no man's land, still picked over by looters as recently as Sunday."

CBS News' "60 Minutes" admitted today they were saving the same story to air the Sunday before the election.

John Kerry seized on the New York Times headline to launch a political attack on President Bush, saying U.S. troops "failed to guard those stockpiles" and that is "one of the great blunders" of the war.

Senator Kerry and the New York Times leave the impression that these weapons went missing recently and U.S. troops were derilict in their duty to guard the stockpile--neither of which is true.

Network and cable news programs repeated the incomplete report and Sen. Kerry's attacks more than 100 times on Monday.

But last night NBC "Nightly News" reported that on April 10, 2003, one day after Baghdad fell, U.S. troops entered Al Qaqaa, accompanied by an embedded reporter from NBC, and found no such weapons.

It also turns out that our troops have found and destroyed or are destroying 400,000 tons of weapons and explosives.

There was no mention of either one of these facts in today's New York Times front page story, which regurgitated yesterday's charges and Senator Kerry's attacks based on them.

Liberal groups like MoveOn.org have already blasted out e-mails repeating the discredited report and urging people to vote against President Bush based on the flawed coverage.

We can not count on the media to set the story straight. We have to get the truth out to our friends and neighbors ourselves.

We are counting on YOU to set the record straight. Please forward this e-mail and the attached fact sheet to family and friends, call your local network, call talk radio, write letters to the editor, and post facts on blogs.

I suspect you'll be hearing from me again in the course of the next seven days as Mr. Thomas's prediction proves true again.
Sincerely,

Ed Gillespie
Chairman, Republican National Committee

An Editorial From The Washington Times
======================================

"UN ambassadors from several nations are disputing assertions by...John Kerry that he met for hours with all members of the UN Security Council just a week before voting in October 2002 to authorize the use of force in Iraq. An investigation by The Washington Times reveals that while the candidate did talk for an unspecified period to at least a few members of the panel, no such meeting, as described by Mr. Kerry on a number of occasions over the past year, ever occurred. At the second presidential debate...Mr. Kerry said he was more attuned to international concerns on Iraq than President Bush, citing his meeting with the entire Security Council. 'This president hasn't listened. I went to meet with the members of the Security Council in the week before we voted. I went to New York. I talked to all of them, to find out how serious they were about really holding Saddam Hussein accountable.' ... But of the five ambassadors on the Security Council in 2002 who were reached directly for comment, four said they had never met Mr. Kerry. The four also said that no one who worked for their countries' UN missions had met with Mr. Kerry either. ... When reached for comment last week, an official with the Kerry campaign stood by the candidate's previous claims that he had met with the entire Security Council. ... Asked whether the international body had any records of Mr. Kerry sitting down with the whole council, a UN spokesman said that 'our office does not have any record of this meeting.' A U.S. official with intimate knowledge of the Security Council's actions in fall of 2002 said that he was not aware of any meeting Mr. Kerry had with members of the panel. An official at the U.S. mission to the United Nations remarked: 'We were as surprised as anyone when Kerry started talking about a meeting with the Security Council.' ... The revelation that Mr. Kerry never met with the entire UN Security Council could be problematic for the Massachusetts senator, as it clashes with one of his central foreign-policy campaign themes -- honesty." --

This "story" was to be the lead on 60 Minutes on Sunday and has been pulled, oh my wonder how real it was to begin with! Kerry is jumping all over it and lets see how the sh-thead tries to spin his way out of putting his big foot in his mouth, again!

Fox imbedded reporter reported that when he went in with the 101st they did not find any weapons catche and said that they really were not looking for anything specific! This is further proof that the major networks are wanting GWB to loose and lets just wait and see what other "story" they try and come up with!

I've said it before: If the story is bad for Dubya it goes on page 1 above the fold and if its good for Dubya it gets buried on page 9 next to the shoe store ads.

once again you are full of it. kerry voted against funding that gave george carte blanche to spend the money anyway he wanted. that was why he voted for the bill, until it was changed and he had to vote against it.

you don't care anyway, but you can't get away with the BS that easily.
