Where have the free thinkers Gone??

I have been away from the boards for a long time, mainly because I felt they had taken a turn from what so many of us used them for and that is a place to ask questions, and to find answers even if it were in the form of another persons idea's so we could at least have something more to to use to search for answers.
Today I have taken the time to read some of the postings on the first page of the Misc. Forum and I must say that many of them seem to have gone so far to the edge that I can't believe it. It appears that many of the posting are no more than a place to run down and belittle others. What ever happen to compassion and understanding?? Even those whom have trouble spelling have questions and have a right in our country to ask them.
I think that we as a nation of persons who have the right to have opinions should at the least also have respect. Respect of others whom may not be as able to put what they are thinking into words as some others are able to. I also see what appears to be people that instead of asking questions and searching for answers of thier own take the word of people who in thier minds are suppose to be knowlegeable and there fore must be telling the truth.
In my 52 years I have very seldom found Politicians whom themselves know what is the truth because they are so use to twisting the truth in order to make themselves look good. So if a honest person wants to know the truth how are they suppose to find it when they come into a hositle place as this place seems to have become to ask a question? We should as concered people be willing to help these people find an answer to thier question with out calling them names or making statements that refere to one's brain power. I was taught that the people whom always put another person down have a problem with themselves."The only Dumb question is the one you don't ask".
There are alot of people in here that it appears come from a higher economic life style than do some of us. Does that mean that we are less concerned or less of a patriot than you. I think not. It does mean that we want to understand certin things for our selves with out being lead by the nose by someone who has some thing to gain. So we come in here asking questions about a sitting president and the person who is running against him. Now many of the posting I have read all pretty much sound alike. They sound like everything coming out of the mouths of those 2 whom are running for the office, doesn't anyone have something original to say?,
Hey I have an idea how about just getting back on track, "What are you going to do for "We The People", The higher income people in here have very different things that they worry about than do those of us who are lower income and have to struggle every day to make ends meet. But the last I heard the post of President is to be for everyone not just one group or type of person..When you come up with an orginal idea do you work it out test it make sure it is viable for those it is meant to help or do you just take a paper and pen and work it out and then say it will work??
What looks good on paper very seldom works well in the real world..It is a extremely hard thing to run a country and do it so all benifit, but it is much easier to just worry about one class of people and let the others fall aside. It is very easy when our lives are going good and the way we want them to, to just dish out garbage on someone who speaks up because thier lives are wanting and many times wanting for things that should be there for them. This is happening more and more in our country. This is a debate that can go on forever and has really only two sides the well to do people and the average to below average income people, which I might point out do out number the well to do..
We use to be a country that helped to take care of our own now it seems all we want to do is worry about how much more we can get and the heck with anyone else. I personally don't care how short someone is and if they need thier speaking stand shortened I just want to know what they have to say,Not what thier election people want them to say. I want to haer answers from the man himself. I don't want to hear what someone else in here thinks is being said I want to hear what the person who wants the spot has to say and what he means by it. I want to know from him why he did what ever he did not what his speach writer wants me to hear..
As an Ex Police officer I want to know Who,What,Why,When,Where, from the person who was responsiable not what someone else thinks they meant. Stop dancing around the questions give answers, answers that can be checked out. Stop using half truths and two or three words from a whole paragraph to push mud on the other guy. I can see how that happens heck it goes on in here instead of thinking about what a person is asking it's easier to dump crap on them and belittle them, after all answering a question any question intelligently takes time and fore thought,it's easier to just use what someone thinks and has said and then belittle the person asking the question.
I really believe that this country needs to stop think, and search for answers and thats what some come in here to do, they are searching for answers and want to make the best choice they can from the best information they can. I thank those people in this Forum that are intelligent enough to take the time to answer questions and also give places to research things to help with the questions. To those whom think that any site or person that says anything different than what they believe or think is wrong, I feel you are one of the lost ones of those whom do not take the time to investigate but instead let others think for you..
Now as for the spelling and grammer of this posting I have done my best but with failing eye sight it is hard to look up any word that I may be unsure of because the print is hard for me to see any more, but I think that most people will understand what I mean..Now all you hot heads go ahead take a shot at me,you will just prove what I have stated through out this posting..It's time we as Americans take time and invest more into the person who is going to lead this country and stop jumping on a band wagon because of someone else who may be on it..You can be right about something but you can make a decision on how to handle it and be wrong... Simple example Spilled milk needs to be cleaned up (Thats the right decision)but cleaning it up with a tooth brush is the wrong action to take use a paper towel or a sponge and your on the right track..Now it's time for the Sh** to hit the fan lets hear what ya think.. TinMan

PS; This bring some thing to mind, the old saying If you meet a hungry man you can either feed him and thats that, or you can teach him to fish and he will feed himself and others. Knowelge is the same, you can give someone an answer you like or you teach them where to look to find the right answer.

Tinman,
I agree with you, wholeheartedly. We should be providing information to try to answer some of the political questions being brought to the forum. There are two problems commonly encountered when this is attempted. 1. Most people are looking for information that will support a preconceived idea. They don't search for truth; they search for validation. Therefore, whatever information you provide that may give them assistance that does not provide validation is discounted as slanted toward the opposition. 2. Where do you go to get the truth these days? The media is as opinionated as the rest of us. It's hard to see the facts in an unadulterated form. Whatever you read is written by someone, and everyone has an opinion. How do you know you're reading something that is unbiased, ever?

This forum is just a political toilet right now. I've, personally, tried to bring up other subjects to avoid politics, like football -- go Cowboys. What you're asking for is nice, but until a month or so after the election, I don't think you're going to get it.

I have to admit that I have been guilty of making fun of some people on this board. It's normally the result, however, of trying to get a point across to someone that I think refuses to accept it. You don't have to agree with me, just listen. After all, I listen to you. I just frustrated because I don't think most folks want the truth. They want validation.

. . . just my $.02.

We should talk about college football, instead. In fact, . . .

Lofty ... who do you like in the upcoming Cal/USC game?

damn good question!!!! Cal is looking pretty strong this year, and USC is looking surprisingly vulnerable. I would not at all be surprised to see Cal route the Trojans. They will both be hyped up to play. This and the OU/UT game are the highlight of this weekend's football schedule, no doubt.

I say welcome back Chuck. Politics always cause this **** which is why I refuse to even discuss it with family. I walk out of the room regardless if I agree with them or not.

The free thinkers have gone to the Libertarian corner, as neither dems nor republicans are good for America.

Your right tinman, I wish we could chat about other topics than politics, but when the subject gets brought up, I feel the need to respond, lest the undecided feel that my viewpoint isn't one held but by a pitiful few. GO COWBOYS!

Yo TinMan51:

The next time a hungry homeless man asks you for a handout try handing him a "How to Fish" book. Better take an umbrella with you.

KC Chiefs finally got their team to play 60 minutes of football and won a big game in Baltimore Monday nite! Now, lets see the Chiefs turn this season around and do what they were supposed to do at the start! Win the damn thing!

Charlie

PS Wishfull thinking on my part, but at least they won one instead of giving it away like they did for past two weeks, they should be 3-1 instead of 1-3! Yes, Denver beat the crap out of them, but that will not happpen in KC!

And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.

I'll have to get back to you, Tinman. Not sure what your complaint is.

I'm only halfway through your post, but don't worry, I've got it bookmarked.

Oh yeah, you Cowboys fans should thank the Skins for all of the gifts you've received over the last decade.
I don't think that you'd have a winning record without us! LOL

I'm a free thinker. I think the Cowboys suck too!! And yes Tony (bassdude) the 49ers have 5 superbowl wins too. Oh, and they don't have 3 losses in the big game, like the crackwagon does. We go to win the damn thing!

2nd place is the first loser. ;-)

tin,
There comes a time when the "free thinkers" get tired of wading through the garbage and getting bantered, that they just stop talking.

Sometimes, when you know that when you make a post, statement or reply, that nothing good will come of it, you avoid the post or reply altogether.

I may be wrong, just my thoughts on that subject.

^Me thinketh thou maketh steak tartar out of road apples.

IMHO, the politics is being run into the ground BUT there's a lot of creativity, honesty, humor, affection, and GENEROSITY among the botls/sotls.

Hostile cheap shots are at their lowest- especially since the elimination of several "rabble- rousers" who appeared to have nervous breakdowns in front of us.

I don't know what this fine forum was like prior to 2002, but I think that time makes memories grow fonder. The years move on & so do posters.

Don't pine & whine. Be happy & snappy.

I agree Zero. It seems to have reached the point that expressing a legitimate opinion causes some posters fits of vitriol uncalled for on a friendly forum. One thread currently tells me that if I am a liberal that equates to being a child molester or a rapist.

I enjoy the posts of most here, Rick, USAHOG, and others that can disagree as gentlemen but some seem to confuse rudeness and namecalling with valid political discourse.
