tarheel4lyf --- sorry to have to give you a gentle 'slap' (LOL) ...

... but I don't know if you remember that 'make me an offer' or 'best offer' is a form of auction ... and not a trade.

The only reason I make a point of this, is that this has happened several times in the past ... and was 'poo-poo'ed' by more folks here at these forums, than just myself.

Yo Slim: Gentle slap, my opinion uncalled for. Tar is asking for a trade and will accept the best offer in trade. No different then someone posting cigars for trade and saying he will only accept large full body cigars in trade and then accepting what he considers the best offer. JonR

Sorry, Slim, but I feel that Jon is correct. This is no different. I am not offering to sell the humi, but trade it for whatever someone else and I agree is a fair trade.

... just sticking by what others have posted on the subject over the years.

You did state that you wanted to trade, but then asked for 'best offer' ... and that is what is considered an 'auction', because basically, you have put youreslf in the position of waiting for the 'highest bidder' ...

Not a big deal ... it's just that it has been frowned upon in the past ... and that is all I was commenting on.

Very rarely will you see it worded as such on this forum ... for that very reason.

Come on Slim...be honest...

You aren't sticking by what others have said about this (i.e. hiding behind someone else)...You are patroling with your backhand again.

Maybe I can get a reputation for "Billy Clubbing" you when you get carried away with your "Slim Slap"!!!!

Chuckler - that's pretty f'ed up right there. Here this is my thread offering mine up, then you jump in and offer to trade someone else for theirs? What's up with that?

tarheel4lyf --- man ... you're taking it from all sides on this thread, it seems ... ;^)

That is in pretty bad form though, for someone to come in and ignore your 'offer', for someone who 'thread-jacked' on your thread ...

Tell you what ...

Just to make things right ... I'll trade you a two CAO L'Anniversaire Napoleon Cameroon, two La Unica #400 Maduro and a 'VERY OLD' Honduran El Rey Del Mundo 1848 for it (Churchill size, and the cedar sleeve with the 1848 stamped on it and the decorated foot) ...

I just hope I don't get 'out-bid' ... hehehe!

If interested ... email me at [email protected]

BUT ... it seems I took a little too long in posting, and Penguin13 beat me to the punch.

So ... in all fairness, he should have first crack at it ... and should be the one to get it.

Yo Slim: Trying to prove your point by bidding high after Penguin13 made his bid by e-mail...hmmmmm. HIGH BID... is the person making the highest bid on a product / BEST OFFER is a person who offers what the trader is looking for and not always the highest offer. So why should Tar accept Penguin13s' offer without checking out other offers, please explain. JonR

Tar, I apologize for the jack. I really did not think anyone would want it. Was curious to see if others would post that they had one and we could get a dozen up here.

Wow Slim I'd buy one and trade it for what you offered!!

JonR --- let's not make this so damn complicated ... it really doesn't have to be so convoluted ....

I have traded on many different forums over many years, and 'best offer' on ALL of them are considered an auction, and it is not allowed ... because it is not a straight forward trade.

Here is an example of one set of guidelines pertaining to trades on another fourm, which is not necessarily the rules on this forum ... just an example to go by.

I have edited out what does not pertain to this fourm:

Some Basic Do's and Don'ts ---

Here are some basic rules when trading in the ***edited*** 'Trading Room':

The trading room is intended for cigar-lovers who wish to trade with others who share their passion for the leaf. The trading room is not meant for retailers (or others) wanting to make a profit from selling their cigars.

Don't auction cigars. Again this site is not intended for those who wish to profit from other members. If you want to auction cigars, take them to a site set up for that purpose. Don't ask for "best offer". This is considered to be another form of auction.

Post what you have to offer clearly and straightforwardly: For example, 'Certain cigar' or 'item' for trade, looking for 'certain cigar'or 'item'.

Those asking for 'best offer' just rub me the wrong way, when they claim they are looking for a trade, because it is not clear what they are looking for in exchange ... and I don't feel it is fair to those who really wanted what that person had to offer, and was first to take it on, and then they lose out to someone else who comes along and makes a better offer.

I don't consider that a trade ... and it's as simple as that. It's waiting until you get what you consider to be the best deal ... and blowing off eveyone else.

Hey ... if everyone else is comfortable with that, that's fine by me. I just don't agree that 'best offer' belongs in a 'Trades' room ... that's all.

FYI --- I had no idea Penguin13 had posted, because I had the 'post a reply to' window open, while I was searching my humidors for some good cigars ... and he posted under me ...

My apologies for any issues this may have caused. Looking back on it, it was a bit inconsiderate, sorry.

Okay Slim: Here goes, #1 "sticking by what others have posted over the years"-- who are these " others " and why should I care what they post. I go by the rules and regulations that are posted by C-Bid. #2 " basic do's and don'ts of other forums"-- Once again that word " others " and once again I go by the rules and regulations that are posted by C-Bid. #3 " I don't consider that a trade "--Key word " I " meaning yourself and once again I ( meaning me ) go by the rules and regulations of C-Bid. Now lets say there was a Slim-Bid forum this by your own typing would be your rules . If a trader posted a 150 stick humidor for cigars trade and first e-mail sent was for 3 lone wolfs and the second e-mail sent was for 10 Opus X, the trader would have to accept the 3 lone wolfs. Let me know when you open Slim-Bid I'll be happy to trade there. Slim this is C-Bids forum don't make your own rules up, follow C-Bids rules. You were wrong in slapping Tar. JonR

BTW JonR ...

... cigarbid's 'Forum Rules & Conditions' are pretty ambiguous, to say the least, when it comes to instances like this one ... so I'm not sure what you mean when you talk about 'my' following CB's rules.

... and as quoted, "the basic rule for using the Forum, is that you use good judgment and common sense" ...

I guess means, that it leaves it up to the individuals character, ethics, standards, and morals ... to determine how to interpret and handle certain situations.

You have your interpretation of those rules ... and I have mine. Let's just leave it at that ... as they both could be very much the correct one.

Slim, I get it. And it does make sense. This is a commercial auction site. Of course everyone wants to get the best offer, bang for their smokes. Thats understood - we just don't need to write it in the trading threads.

I know it doesn't seem important but guidlines are important in maintaining a boards integrity. There does not appear to be a great deal of outside moderation here. So it's the sr members who have done the amazing job creating one of the best boards of it's kind.

Slap away slim
