Why make a conventional ordinance if you aren't going to use it? I haven't heard if it was effective in achieving their goals. fog

Nothing like a good asswhooping to raise the approval numbers.

Hope this had some real merit to using it.

I think the merit was that the bomb has not been tested until now. At least we know the capabilities.

They will do aerial reconnaissance to see how effective the bomb was. Supposedly the strike area in Afghanistan is inaccessible and the only known people there are ISIS terrorists, making this an ideal chance to use it...what could go wrong...

On a real target?

I believe it was first tested in 03 at Eglin AFB. Pretty sure they had an idea of the capabilities after that.

Trump's approval numbers will go up some more...he keeps dropping bombs he might get to above 50%...even some liberals like to see missiles flying and bombs exploding, regardless of consequences...

much of this has to be intended as a warning to kim jong fat in nk as well
remember when carter was winning peace prizes for negotiating away their nuclear weapons program
the nk hot potato has been unsuccessfully handled by many presidents thus far and, unfortunately, the next time the music stops the stakes will be much higher

We have reached an untenable position with North Korea...their leader seemingly is willing to sacrifice his nation while taking out millions of innocent people in SK, China and Japan. Their weapons delivery systems, including nuclear weapons, are in deep underground bunkers that may withstand bombing before launch. Our President needs to get a briefing about what our options are and what might happen if we take them...

Since the end of the Korean War, in the 50's, we lacked the will to take on China during NK's development of nuclear capability. Our strategists were sure that China would defend NK militarily, as they did during the war...we'll never know...hopefully China still sees value in having a friendly buffer between it and SK, enough so to somehow de-escalate Un's behavior...

North Korea is only a threat because of what we haven't done.

And we can't form our foreign policy decisions over how that lunatic in charge will perceive it.

How friggin weak do you want the US to be?

I guess a rephrase of the question is how many have already been lost and will continue to be lost in our weakness?

Nah, bomb them into oblivion without putting boots on the ground. While we are at it, bomb the chit of their desert training camps.

Then we can go back to walking softly with a big stick.

I say let Palestine have Jerusalem, bring all the Jews to the US and build the new Temple right here in Texas and declare a new Holy City since there is no shortage of firearms or people willing to defend it here. Once we get all the Jews and Christians out of the Middle East we just nuke it to glass. Problem solved! Beer

The US has the strongest, largest, best trained and educated, best equipped military in the history of the world, with land, sea, air superiority; with superior technology, cyber capability, satellite communications, logistics and intelligence capability over the rest of the world combined. It's undeniable. Our nuclear capacity could destroy the world numerous times...

Other countries who are friendly, buy our hardware. Our military provides training, equipment and support to our allies. Enemies who have tried to develop their own weapons have tried to steal our secrets. Foreign produced weapons have been proven inferior, in side-by-side tests.

And, yet, we're weak when some third world dictator fires off a few rockets, testing technology that we surpassed a few decades ago, ineffectively and without actual damage to us or our friends. The US has unquestioned leadership in the world, and is looked up to because of our restraint in unleashing our war machine. Our feelings of weakness are fantasies our leaders feed us, when they become insecure and need to flex some muscles. Kinda like using a shotgun in a crowded room to kill a bee... The wise warrior knows that war is the last resort.

Al, here's what you missed...

the truth is that 8 years ago, just a couple of months into his first term, folks here said it wasn't Bush's War any more and O had said he would get us out. He took crap for not doing so immediately and it instantly became known as Obama's War. Bush is no longer President- was the refrain.

At the end of the 8 years, the new Prez says he inherited the world in a mess (welcome to the last century of Presidenting Mr. Trump) and folks here now say Obama should have waded in as deep as Hank's waders would take us...just like Trump is doing.

Guess what? Obama is out. It's Trump's war going forward, and I hope he lets his Generals call the shots whether it's charge or retreat.I'm cutting him slack as he has not been an insider privy to the workings of the world...hence my trust in the Generals over Trump and Bannon or whoever is the brain of the week.
