#2 from TampaTom,
This is a robusto 5x50, nice reddish brown wrapper. Paired with a glass of ice tea.
Single cap, firm with no soft spots. The foot has some loose tobacco. Straight cut and small flakes of tobacco came out.
After a 1/2 inch a slight touch up is needed. Can't detect much flavor except maybe a lil cedar. Mild body from the start. Draw is good with enough output of smoke. 40 minutes pass and I'm at the half way mark and not much to report, maybe body moved to medium. The taste is just straight tobacco. With a third to go I've lost interest in this cigar. If I was doing yard work it would be perfect. Can't say what exactly it is but smoked many like it while, fishing, golfing and yard work. Would I buy any? Nope👎🏻 Looking forward to number 3😎

Okay, I doubled down, so here are my reviews from namadio.

Cigar #1 Lonsdale

Visual Inspection: Smooth, mid shade brown wrapper. a few veins from the binder visible from beneath the wrapper. Firm to the touch. Faintly honey smell

Clip and Draw: Draw is unpleasantly firm, but not plugged. cold draw hints at black tea

Smoking Experience: This cigar has one of my favorite flavor profiles. Reminded me of a cuban La Gloria Cubana MdO#2. Gram cracker sweetness with woody notes and hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. The tight draw seems to really hold this cigar back, a little more open and I think the flavors would have been richer. mild to medium strength

Evaluation: I had this pegged as the high end cigar when I opened the box, but it underwhelmed a little. I wonder if I would feel differently with one that drew better. But this seems like a good imitation of hard to find cigar, so if they aren't all plugged in the box, this could be a good find.

Cigar #2 Box pressed corona maduro

Visual Inspection: This cigar is very much shaped like a Padron 64, but the wrapper seems like its wrinkled and a little too glossy and unnaturally maduro to be a true padron. Smells sweet

Clip and Draw: Draw is just fine, sharp taste of horse stall on the cold draw

Smoking Experience: Is it a padron or a nica libre? that's all I'm thinking as I smoke this. It has the a smoothy chocolate that I would expect, but doesn't feel rich enough to be a true padron. A few small voids mar the smoking experience, but only slightly. This cigar burns fairly quickly, but stays smooth, only getting harsh at the very end. Medium strength

Evaluation: I'm going to go ahead call this a Nica Libre 1990. Does as great padron impression, but just doesn't feel rich enough to be the real thing

Cigar #3 6.5x54 perfecto

Visual Inspection: Pretty unique shape, probably spent some time on the top of a display case because the wrapper is darker where the band was. These clues lead me to guess that this is an Alec Bradley Tempus. Smells of leather. Firmly constructed

Clip and Draw: Good draw with a bit of barnyard on the cold draw.

Smoking Experience: I love perfectos, and the complexity you get from them. This one opened with a pepin type pepper spice with a light floral and ceder background. Burn is a little uneven, but not awful. As it progresses the cigars gets creamier, with notes of butter, licorice and marshmallow as the cigar hits the widest point. As it narrows again the woodier notes return. Pretty strong cigar all told.

Evaluation: Good cigar, I'm guessing its the mid range AB tempus. I don't really like cigars this strong, but it certainly isn't a bad smoke. Its well rolled, complex and strong.

So guesses are:
#1 La Gloria Cubana MdO#2 (I doubt it, but I want to guess someting)
#2 Nica Libre 1990 (actually kinda confident)
#3 alec bradley tempus perfecto (just based on looks, but the flavor profile seems close)

And I just remembered that namadio wrapped the bands with the package, so the actual cigars are:

#1: L'Atelier Extension de la Racine ER15 - Mid
#2: Indian Tabac Maduro - Low
#3: Senorial 65th anniversary by Jose Blanco - High

Well, both times I could nail the low end cigar as being low end. mid vs. high not so much.

Also, I suck at reviewing strong cigars.

Nice!!! I originally meant to unband the davidoff to see if anyone else guessed it as high but I forgot what I was doing and removed the blanco. Fortunately either one qualified for the high category and not on cbid cat.

I've got 1 more remaining and I m really torn as to which is high med low. Hopefully this third one will stand as a category making it easier to determine other two. Going to smoke it tonight!

Also I don't remember the other ER being plugged that I smoked but I'll have to check another one soon.. for science...

Finished up #3 from TampaTom tonight.
Toro 6x50, dark oily wrapper, single cap, very hard and meaty. Straight cut paired with a Captain Morgan and Diet Coke. First few puffs bring some spice and pepper. Great draw and starts out medium body. Into a half inch and switched to sweet cocco. This cigar packs a punch I can feel it at the back of my throat. At the half way point I start to notice some floral notes with a touch of cinnamon. My head is spinning which means it has gone to full body.
Perfect burn with the ash holding just passed the middle mark. Glad I ate dinner before firing this bad boy up(wow).
Hitting the 2/3 mark I now taste creamy spice. Don't know how much more of this cigar I can handle.
The flavors switched throughout the cigar and was excellent but the full body has done me in. If I had to guess this cigar I would say JdN Antonio.
Tom, thanks for a nice varietyHerfing

Yesterday, or maybe Thursday, I smoked the labelled well aged La Gloria Cubana and it was exactly what I expected and wanted. What I remembered from when LGC was my go to brand at the shpo. Enjoyed it.

Today I'm trying the Acme Premier. Never heard of it. Thought I'd add a short review. I finished the blind ones, but since it's not a known brand, figured I'd share my take.

Cold draw dry hay/grass/dusty.

Initial light a bit dry, mild bite on retrohale. Somewhat floral finish which makes me feel like sneezing. Weird. Not sure I'll like it, suspect it's going to pepper it up and get stronger than I prefer.

Inch or so in, and getting the sweet nutty creamy flavors and mouthfeel I love. This is the texture and flavor profile I absolutely love in a cigar. Overall I'd say the flavor strength is square medium. The creaminess is not very rich, but it's there.

Halfway, even creamier, coats the mouth, flavors linger. Wood up front, spices on the finish. Pretty sweet, but with a dry finish. I am enjoying this more than I expected.

Last 2" increased presence but flavors solid and unchanged. Less dry.

At 1" I'm setting it down to get to bed at a reasonable time.

Fantastic cigar. Thank you much.

I hadn't thought we were reviewing the labelled cigars but i did smoke that Guaiamaro which was a very toasty little box press. A little nutty with some mild spices that made for an enjoyable medium body smoke. Never heard of this brand and was very impressed.

Glad you liked the Acme. I never heard of 'em either, until I entered a contest via twitter. Won them in a contest about a year ago.

Smoked the last cigar today while watching the masters.

#1 - 5'' 50/52 rg dark brown wrapper, matched the coors light bottle. very thin maduro? wrapper, had a couple of cracks, but minor veins and very clean double cap. should have trimmed the foot about a half inch since a split turned into a Y split, but corrected its self after a few holes. when i cut the cap, the wrapper split at the top and may have contributed to very loose and open draw. prelight the cigar smelled of sweet hay and cut grass. based off visual appearance, i would think its the mid range / top shelf

1st 3rd - starts off sweet, reminding me of cocoa and coffee. nice start, first cigar of the 3 that isnt a pepper blast. i used a v cut that somehow managed to get a split from the head to the where the wrapper laid and a noticeable piece of wrapper flaked off. draw is wide open with very little smoke being produced. the strength level is right up my alley thou, and the flavors continue between light sweetness and semi bitterness like black coldbrew coffee, and i must say i do enjoy this. ash survives less then an inch, and a touch up is already needed.

2nd 3rd - the flavor profile does not change, and the fully open draw makes getting any amount of smoke very difficult. smaller bumps in the delicate wrapper keep needing relights and i think that stops the flavor from developing. the cigar starts to get bitter as i keep taking bigger and longer draws in order to get more smoke, but the mild sweetness remains as the only prominent taste i can pick up. but i want more from this, and i dont know if its supposed to be one dimensional or if the wrapper cracks have doomed the cigars. as i keep trying to get more, the cigar begins to get bitter and unpleasant. after another relight, i have to give up on this one as the top starts to unravel more. i do not make it into the final third with this one, but with the taste and strenght right in my wheel well, i would like to revisit. i would guess this is the midrange but i could see it being the topshelf.

#3 5'' 50/52 rg connie wrapper. super thin and fragile. needs a half in trim, foot completely shredded. had a number of veins and a couple sun spots/blemishes. double cap. straight cut. pre light draw is super loose. notes of hay are the overpowering taste.

1st 3rd - heavy pepper bomb, the bigger the drawer, the greater the pepper. there is a lot of smoke being produced but the open draw makes the cigar burn hott, and the pepper can often be accompanied by a bitter finishing taste, slighty acidic like orange juice. slowing down the pace, and retrohaling lets some possible coccoa/coffee notes shine through but a definite finish of leather is present.

2nd 3rd - touch ups are needed with the cigar running hot, and the intense acidic aftertaste is often present. the intensity keeps increasing even as i continue to slow the smoking pace. the cigar smoke keeps putting off notes of sweet cream/ vanilla, but i dont get that taste come across from any puffs which confuses me.

no change into the final 3rd, and continued touchups and intense pepper bitterness have me abandon this cigar with and inch and a half left. i would guess this is the yard gar, not up my alley.

#2 was easily my favorite. 5" x 50/52 rg. dark wrapper. i will post a review on it later, as i forgot my notes on it at work. easily my favorite of the bunch, and the only one i nubbed.

Sure looks like I need to increase the humidity in the humidors. You are the second person (in a row) that has had some damage to the cigars, I am guessing due to them being dry. Ugh. Sorry about that.

No worries dave, i think my mail person messes with my packages since i constantly complain about them being horrible. Im lucky if they dont leave them out in the rain or throw them in the bushes. I back at work friday and will post that reivew of #2 then. Apart from solid burn, great ash and a blackhawks shootout win, not remembering much

OK i am ready to type up my reviews for the 3 blind cigars 99Cobra sent me. They were all good cigars and enjoyed the chance to do this once again.

I did my reviews based on appearance because from the last few times doing this that seemed to be more accurate then my palate. My guesses are in ()

Review for cigar #3 (mid range)

6x50 chocolate in color, possible maduro wrapper. The cigar was very firm when I squeezed it almost no give to it. There was a single cap and a few visible veins throughout.

1/3 The cigar started off with a bitter chocolate taste, some cayenne, and black pepper. It is producing a fair amount of smoke which I enjoy. The ash is a little flakey so I knock it off early because I ddn't want it on my lap, it could have probably held just didn't risk it. Burn line is pretty straight on it as well. Flavors don't change much throughout the beginning.

2/3 The cayenne mellows out a touch and the chocolate becomes less bitter as well but still in there. Started to get a a seared meat flavor on the finish at this point into the cigar. The flavors have been pretty full until about half way through the cigar and it gets a little airy for a minute or two. Still getting a smoked meat flavor in there.

3/3 The cigar finishes much the same as the 2/3. The ash was white with grey streaks in it and I never had to touch it up.

Conclusion- I smoke very slow generally and this cigar lasted me 1 hr 45 min. If I had smoked this cigar and not the others before finishing my review I felt like this would be the yard gar but upon doing the others I am going with mid range. Don't believe I have had this cigar before but it was enjoyable. No clue on the label for this one

Review for cigar # 2 (yard gar)

5x 48-50ish cigar with a maduro in color wrapper. There is a triple cap on this cigar and again it feels pretty tight when I squeeze it (starting to think it the humidity level I stored it in before smoking now). Real oily feeling wrapper with some small bumps throughout the cigar that I can feel.

1/3 The draw is a little snug upon first light. Initially it reminds me of what I get when I smoke a cigar with a mexican san adres wrapper, chocolate, bitter coffee, and a hint of pepper. The bitter coffee taste like the Cuban blend coffee I get from WaWa when it is available. The ash is all white and a little flakey as well. Flavor profile is medium to start with.

2/3 Draw opens up some now now. Getting the same notes from the smoke but they have become milder or not as in your face as they once were. I did give it a small touch up but it may have evened itself out if given the time to. Cigar is getting more airy as it goes deeper into this third.

3/3 The flavor comes back to life here. More pepper pops to the forefront but that quickly dissipates. Getting a pleasant leather taste on the finish now as well. Towards the end of the cigar the flavors die out again.

Conclusion- I like maduros a lot and this one was a decent one. I don't fault the times that I struggled to get flavor from it because it could have possibly been me not searching hard enough to get them. The cigar lasted 1.5 hrs and I think that this was the yard gar but could easily have been the mid range.

Review for cigar #1 (top shelf)

5x50-52ish milk chocolate in color. Cigar has a triple cap with just a little give when squeezed. Minimal veins and the seems are almost invisible. Wrapper is silky smooth to the touch. From appearance alone I would be shocked if this wasn't a high end cigar.

1/3 Initial flavor after l light it is pepper and all pepper. I like pepper bombs and this one feels like it is going to fit right in on that note. The cigar starts to get a little dry but I have a drink handy for that. 1/2 inch in and the pepper is building but I think I am experiencing some oak in there as well. Burn line is razor sharp. The ash is white with grey streaks and holding strong but I knock it off around 3/4 inch because of habit really. Tons of smoke out put on this one.

2/3 Pepper decided to take a break for a bit and now that oak I thought I tasted is definitely in there. I don't normally get a nicotine buzz from cigars but this one just gave me one. Pepper starting to fade back into the mix. There is a note in there that I feel the pepper is drowning out or I just don't have a refined enough palate to figure out what it is. Towards the end of this third I do get a slight meaty taste but not like a charred meat.

3/3 Pepper fades again and some spiciness comes in, possible cayenne note. The retro is real smooth oak at this point compared to earlier where it was all pepper and would make me sneeze. There is definitely something else in there that I can't put my finger on what it is.

Conclusion- I nubbed this cigar and it took me about 1 hr and 45 min to do so. This would be a cigar that I would always want to keep on hand, while a lean more towards maduros this was really good. Hopefully I am wrong about this being the top shelf but performance is agreeing with that guess. I kind of think this was a cigar that would come out of a Pepin factory from the flavors.

Thank you 99Cobra those were some good cigars and while I am confident in my guesses I could also see myself being way off because they all had their strong points while smoking them.

Shaun,
I'm glad you liked all the cigars I sent. Great reviews of them too. Hope you enjoy the Las Calaveras sampler.

The DC usually just wow me with the smoothness and rich flavors, maybe I sent you a dud.

The Arganese ML3s are a cheapie but with some rest they outperform most yard gars imho.

Finally, the Oliva V double robusto, great review of this one made me want to go light one up, though I was fairly sure Chazbo had sent me one that I smoked for my no. 2 review, but I was mistaken, interested to see what it was. They're a solid smoke and I often tell my smallish local the Oliva Vs are the best cigar they sell.

Anthony

I had only ashed one other DC Maximus before and if I recall it was much the same for me. Most of my cigars I stock up on are what I would consider full cigars because I tend to need the power to be able to pick out the notes often times. I kind of thought I was missing something in there, probably just not a cigar that fits me personally and not a dud.

My first Arganese for sure. I was fairly confident in this guess but yes I can see how these would outperform a lot of other yard gars. Brazilian maduro wrapper, I may search a few of these out cause I like Brazilian wrappers as well. Wouldn't have guessed all ligero filler though honestly.

Now I want to grab some more Oliva V as well. That was a surprise but the last few Oliva V I smoked were Melanios. This one hit my sweet spot and it was what I thought was the nicest looking cigar of the group.

Those Las Calaveras haven't meant their demise yet but soon will, good cigar from the ones I have tried int he past. Thanks again 99cobra

#2 Robusto , medium brown, round, double cap. It also had a closed foot. Overall the cigar has the exact appearance of leather.
Pre-light gave me some pepper but nothing over powering.

It was very easy to light, especially with the closed foot. Only thing about a closed foot is that when you start getting ash at the end of the cigar, it looks all ragged. First inch it is pretty nice. It has a very creamy feel to it. Feels like it is coating my tongue. Reminds me of a Tat Cohete or a PCR. Ash was a very light grey. It held to about 1 1/2 inches. The coating feeling has faded away, leaving a very pleasant woodsy flavor. I can feel the high level of nicotine already. This one could be a doozy.

Half way through and I think I might have tainted the flavor a bit by drinking a Monster Energy Ultra Violet. The grape taste actually mixed well with the cigar. The little bit of sweetness in my mouth following a sip worked very well with the cigar. I did try to back off of the drink so that i could try to get more flavor from the cigar.

Last third and I am really getting a leather/musky flavor from it. It isn't a bad flavor. I took the cigar down to about 3/4 of an inch.

Overall the cigar was really good. From the construction to the nice rich flavor throughout, I would say that this is the High End Cigar.

I was a bit of slacker on this one. I didn't take too many notes. I think that lies in the overall performance of the cigar. The cigar was a light brown (lighter than its two brothers). Again it was in the robusto size. It was hard to tell if it was a single or double cap. Pre- light , it had a very easy draw after cutting. Once lit, it burned crooked for about an inch and then leveled out. The ash was a medium gray with some darker gray areas. The ash consistently stayed on until it reached an inch and then fell off.
The first half of the cigar was nice. It wasn't anything that knocked my socks off. As others and myself have stated, it was pretty much a one note taste. I tried not to chief it too bad because anytime I took a big draw on it, it would get a little bitter. No big tastes jumped out at me. I smoked it down to about a 1/3rd left and tossed it. Overall it wasn't a bad cigar, it just didn't give me much flavor while smoking it. I would guess this is the yard gar. I could definitely see me smoking one of these if I was busy doing some work or yard work. If you weren't really hunting for all of the flavor profiles and just wanted something to billow out smoke, this is your cigar.

Shaun thank you for the cigars....and then the additional cigars. I can't wait to try the others you sent. If you have any info on them, feel free to pass it along.

Thanks again.

David.

Review of Shaun's #1 unbanded.

Small perfecto cigar (I have a good idea what it is but I will put that at the bottom). It is a deep, medium brown with an open foot. Prelight....and I am not going to hold any punches. The cigar smelled like poop. Not "it smelled bad" but no kidding poop. It seemed to fade once I got it outside and let it air out. The smell had me a little nervous but what the hell, I am going to go for it.

It was an easy light, I was able to just use a little single flame torch to light it properly. After the first few puffs, the cigar took off and really started to pour out the smoke (from both ends). The flavor was a lot smoother than I thought it was going to be. The initial smell was already gone and I was enjoying the cigar. It had a darker grey ash that held on for at least 3/4 of an inch. I noticed that the cigar had a pretty thick wrapper and was burning slower than I thought it would. The cigar definitely had some earthy tones to it. Pretty solid smoke.

Once I made it past the 1/2 way mark it turned a little bitter....it might have been that I inhaled to fast/hard and got it too hot. I backed off on the power of intake and it made a big difference. So, others that smoke this one be warned, if you chief this cigar it won't taste nearly as good. As I sit here about an hour or so after smoking it, I still have a pleasant aftertaste going. (a rarity)

Overall, it was a pretty good cigar. Since I think I know what it is.....a La Aurora Preferidos (a premium cigar)....I should say that it was a premium cigar, however it performed more like the medium cigar to me.

Thanks Shaun, I do love doing these blind tests. Don't respond to my guess until I do all of the reviews. I don't want to taint my opinion on the others because of your answer.

David.

Nice review and good guess, this is a go to for me and can be had for a pretty solid price on a competitors site but falls into the mid range category if not had there. It was an Intemperance BA Envy made by RomaCraft

Cigar #2 was Diesel Uncut and falls into the yard gar category. I enjoy these a lot but generally find them strong so only smoke them as a last cigar of the night or only cigar of the day. Nice review, kind of makes me want one now!

Cigar #3 was Opus X Double Robusto I can't attest to how this size performs because I have only mostly had the love affairs but it sounds like I sent you a dud. Picked that one up a couple years ago at a shop on Lancaster while there for the weekend. Unfortunately this was the premium and it sounds like a letdown.

I should just go in there and take off all of the bands on all of my cigars. Thanks for the cigars. Realize that I was being hyper critical on them. If I wasn't, I would have been just happy to smoke a cigar and enjoy it. There are rarely cigars that I have totally disliked. None of the three did I "totally dislike".

I definitely had fun doing them. Plus it makes me get out there and burn one!!!!

Ok here it is! This was much harder than last time I tried because none of the cigars were a glaring yardgar!

1.) 4 7/8 x 48? Wrapper looks slightly darker than a habano one big vein
Punch cut paired with water 67 degrees out with RH of 57%
Prelight smelled good. Earthy and grassy pre light taste

1/3 Smooth, med strenght. Hint of spice. Some wood flavors Held ash about 1%
Got an odd taste similar to pennies which made me think my hands had something on them
Nice retrohale but not picking out anything specific just pleasant

2/3 Smooth and mellow with mild spice. Maybe less than medium now
spice in background with a bit of leather
Flavor on the retrohale that is common and I enjoy but I can't identify it specifically. Been looking at flavor wheels and still can't place it

3/3 same as before but more intense from the oils
Nubbed it, lasted over an hour.

This cigar was very enjoyable but based on maybe having some soft spots from initial inspection (although burn was very even) and not alot of complexity to my palate, maybe this was the yardgar? It could very easily have been something well aged that mellowed out... Nubbed it lasted over an hour.

2.) 5x50? punch cut, cold out forgot to check temp.
Paired with water
Apparently I forgot to take notes on the wrapper or pre light

1/3 Seems like a bit of power right off the bat. Spice and leather. SOmething a little darker, maybe chocolate or coffee.
A bit sweet on the retrohale but definitely some pepper creepin in
More interesting and less subdued than #1

2/3 spice has calmed down or i've gotten used to it
Noticing an earthy taste in my mouth and some sort of floral hint on the retrohale.
Perfect burn and producing a lot of good smoke

3/3 mostly same as 2/3

Excellent smoke, lasted about 1.5 hour.
My guess is this was the premium due to perfect construction and increased complexity.

3.)Longer, churchill or toro? Didn't measure.
Smoke at the meeting of Crane Whisk(e)y Society
Paired with... lots of Bourbons and some barrel aged Gin

1/3 i got definite nutty flavors. I usually don't pick that one out but its all it could make me think of.
Definitely a good smoke

2/3 spicy retrohale. Peppery not baking spice.

3/3 I was probably getting intoxicated by this point. I wrote yum.

This could've been a toss up for the premium if I paid more attention. I let it go out a few times by gabbing too much unfortunately. I smoked for nearly 2hrs. Lesson learned, whisk(e)y society is not a good time to review a cigar blind, but I didn't have a lot of smoking time so I fit it in where I could.

My guess, the medium.

1.) yard
2.) permium
3.) medium?

Like I said, nothing was glaringly the yardgar, all were good, #2 stood out a bit more to me.

Anxious to see the reveal. Thanks for doubling down Makana!

^^i like the penny reference. I have had that a few times too but just couldn't describe it correctly. The penny is right on.

Okay, found the bands. They were:

1) AF Magnum Rosado - Mid range
2) 262 Allegiance Robusto - Under $5
3) LFD La Nox - Premium

Again, I cheated a little since I don't really keep true yard 'gars around. The 262 retails for more, but was recently sold for $3.50 a stick on clearance else where.

forgot about this until i saw my note
#2 5" robusto at 50/52 firm in the hand, dark brown and veiny wrapper with a spot or two. good draw
Cold draw has a smoky sweetness to it.

1st third - smokey and peppery, with a tingle left on lips intially that mellowed out after 15 minutes and stayed pleasant. a couple retrohales left a heavy pepper after taste, enough to get the nose itchy. heavy but heavy in a good way. sweetness starts to drop off. rough burn to start, seems to be leveling out

2nd third - sweetness really dissipates, ash stays on firm until atleast the halfway point. quite impressed by this, has to be the premium. pepper has calm down, but is still present. the smoky flavor is the main taste currently, and remains the most obvious taste. a retrohale bring back the pepper bomb, and maybe a hint of leather. no burn issues

final third- needs a retouch from the lighter, but flavor profile does not heavily change. no longer trying to retrohale, too much pepper. smokiness remains, and i keep getting a mix that reminds me of woods after rain and leather. ashed at around the inch mark. good smoke, lasted an easy 90 minutes.

this reminded me of a KFC, just a good one. i had a couple of KFC pigs after getting a box, but the flavors were off to me, so they went to rest. also had hints of LFD, mostly similarities from failing to retrohale those.

thanks for the smokes dave.

Ypetryna, the cigars were
1. La Perla Habana Wide (last time we did this, I was given one and I gave it high marks) Yard Gar
2. AF Añejo, I believe it was a 46 but not sure. (Mid range...kind of) I really like the Añejos
3. AF Don Carlos Anniversario (Premium)

I am a little surprised about the Don Carlos review but on the other hand, I have had a few expensive AF that didn't live up to the hype and expense.
