'Backordered" on CI, yet Free Falling on CA?

My question will probably give it away that I am a newbie (Guilty) but here goes - So what's the dealeo with CI showing items on "Backorder" yet the same company (I am correct it IS the same company, right?) has the exact same item, in the same quantity on "clearance" here on Cbid in the form of a Free Fall auction or what not.

there ARE times (and this may be one of them) when the quantity on hand of a cigar slated to be closed out is rather limited ... in those instances, they get rid of the roll ends thru auction rather than hope for them to disappear in quantity on CI ... I've known that to happen on a number of occasions

I once got yelled at and was told that "everyone keeps his own freaking inventory. It's like everyone in the household keeps his freeking money in his freaking wallet."

Kinda makes sense.
