Curious as to all the different flavors everyone has tasted in their cigars (non-artificially-flavored/infused like grape, watermelon, peach, apple, etc). Hoping to get an exhaustive list to see if I can pull some more flavors out of the cigars I smoke and maybe develop my palate a little more.

Here are some of what I can remember:

Leather
Earth (dirt)
Earth (grass)
Earth (leaves)
Earth (tree bark)
Earth (pine)
Cocoa
Milk Chocolate
Dark Chocolate
Coffee/Espresso Bean
Grape/Cherry Stem
Cherry
Cayenne Pepper
Black Pepper
Bread
Light Toast
Burnt Toast
Almonds
Walnuts
Cashews
Cardboard / Toilet Paper Rolls (Dark Sharks)
Plastic (unfortunately)

Thanks, that flavor wheel is pretty awesome, although it seems pretty incomplete. It is a good start though. I may add some extras to the sheet I printed of it.

Bird Feathers - got one in a backwoods a long time ago - what a stink and awful taste - stopped smoking backwoods.
Sweet red wine - very pleasant taste.

The bird feathers sound awful...but that is what you get for smoking a backwoods to begin with. Had a buddy make me try one once, almost puked it was so terrible. Got halfway through and quit. Had to drink some whisky to get rid of the taste (after brushing 3 times and using mouthwash twice).

I think I have tasted red wine before...that may go hand in hand with the grape stem taste I get. I also taste that in some beers.

One from the wheel I know I have tasted is caramel.

This, taken from a cigar review, is probably my favorite pretentious bullschitt cigar flavor description EVER:

Quote:
"Room aroma is reminiscent of dried leaves and newspaper burning in rusty, fifty-five gallon drums near a deserted railway station."

Yeah, douchebag, you could smell the railway station, you could smell that it was deserted, and you could smell that the barrel was rusted, and you could smell that it was 55 gallons, not 35 or 60.

Could you also smell that the station had been deserted for 1 year, 45 days, 8 minutes and 52 seconds? Could you smell that precisely 36.5% of the barrel's surface area was rusted? Could you smell the headlines on the newspaper being burned, you huge douchebag? "Mmm, I'm detecting hints of a drop in the NASDAQ that day!"

What an idiot. He apparently doesn't realize that that sentence screams to all readers, "I AM A PRETENTIOUS DOUCHEBAG!" Totally unaware.

That is awesome! ha! While I agree with what you are saying...I feel like maybe the guy/gal was just reminded of a memory while smoking the cigar rather than commenting on the actual flavor...........

....nah...he/she is just a DB!

Sounds as if you guys have the same sort of taste profile I do ... now and then, I get a request to review one of my purchases ... I respond by saying that while others list various things such as chocolate, leather, etc that I had noticed a distinct tobacco taste about it, which is why I liked it ... they don't seem to like this sort of review, because my comments are never published among the customer reviews ...

I did post once in this forum that I particularly dis-liked a certain cigar and that I was confident I could produce a better one myself using old lawn clippings and autumn leaves from the large tree in my yard ...

All in all, it really DOES all come down to whether you like a particular cigar or not ... and your findings have little or no bearing on whether I might like that cigar or not ... and, vice-versa ... unless we know one another well enough to judge how our respective opinions coincide ...

I agree that this flavor stuff can be absurd sometimes. I mean earth? What dies earth taste like? Sounds like dirt to me. And let's not forget the reviewers fondness for leather. Why just last night I was snacking on An old shoe. It Tasted just like my oliva serie v melanio.

Just in case I am not sensing your sarcasm....Our sense of taste relies a lot on our sense of smell. So all these flavors of things you would never eat aren't actually what they taste like but rather what they smell like. So the leather you taste is probably not what leather actually tastes like but rather what it smells like. Basically you are tasting a smell.

Thank you for this thoughtful reply. I would agree with you except for the fact that reviewers always comment on aromas. I would have no problem with a review that said something like " a lovely fragrance of English saddle leather" or some other description of smell. But I repeatedly see descriptions of taste that will specify leather It's absurd
Again. Thanks for the serious response. I get a little bored with the amount of silly replies often found in the cigar discussion forum
