Oro de Nicaragua by Pepin?

Anybody tried these yet? I like maybe 95% of Pepin's blends even though some are a little too spicy for my taste depending on time of day.

Add copy:
"This cigar is without a doubt, one of the best cigars to come out of the Pepin factory in recent memory. If the Oro de Nicaragua had come out three months ago, we're sure it would have topped Cigar Aficionados best cigars list! The pre-light draw on this cigar has a pleasant sweetness to it, and at a glance the wrapper looks like a piece of fine leather. Once lit, the Oro de Nicaragua gives off some spice with a floral note through the retrohale, and none of it leaves a funny aftertaste. The roll is tight enough to hold half the cigars worth of ash, and you can set it down without fear of it rapidly going out. The smoke is smooth throughout, and you find yourself wanting to light up another just after you finish; it's that good.

The Oro de Nicaragua is easily the best thing to come from the Pepin factory in a long time."

That sounds like more of an opportunity to smoke more cigars than a problem. Box of Toros on the way.

Tried a rob fott on a foggy upper 30s day. Quite tasty, but under those conditions the wrapper was as fragile as the thinnest cammie. Into the cooler to settle down for a month or so and revisit.

My box of toro size arrived today. They look and smell fantastic but I'm going to wait a week before trying any since it's very dry outside right now and I just had a Verocu #9 do a Gurkha on me yesterday.

Tried my 1st yesterday and this is one tasty smoke.

They have a rich, tanginess that coats the tongue and reminds me of the long gone EPC Elancos.

Only problem is, like riverdog said, the wrappers are very thin and prone to splitting. If the band is not loose on the cigar it will tare the wrapper leaf if you try to remove it.

Smoked my 3rd today. Stellar taste, terrible fragile wrapper that split within first inch. Don't think I'll smoke another until summer is here.d'oh!

Thanks DED. They taste so damn good I'll probably try another during the January thaw, but you are so right on the wrapper.

I'm a big fan of Pepin, seen this thread, made me want to try it :D

That's why it's up on m PIB list!

I don't know if anyone was brave enough to try the Legend Series of Pepin (I was, overall not the biggest fan of it, was the only legend series I tried).

But it might be the same wrapper that's on there, the wrapper has excellent flavor on those, the filler... not so much. but the wrapper just falls apart on them.

Any of you smoked one yet. I'm interested to know if the wrappers split on anyone. I have tried 4 so far and all have split. I contacted the seller and he is "working with the maker on it". He asked for pictures.

Smoked a Robusto last week and although I found the wrapper to be fragile, it didn't split on me. I didn't check the humidity that night but guessing it was in the high 50s / low 60s.

I also had a robbie last week. No problems with construction or burn. Temps in low 60's and humidity in 40-50 range. Nice flavor, different than the MF line. Little nuttier, less pepper, but my taste buds may have been affected by the cold I was recovering from. Some other cigars that I'm familiar with seemed a little subdued when I smoked them.

I'm really liking the taste but pisses me off that I can't even remove the bands without ripping a hole in the wrappers even if I leave the bands on until near the ash to warm them up.

I don't have this problem with any other cigars. Can't afford to move to Hawaii. d'oh!

No problems with splitting or anything on my end either, but the wrapper is very thin and fragile.… my first one I nipped a very small chunk out trying to remove the band.

Got a replacement package today with a full box of the toro vitolas along with a letter of apology thanking me for bringing this to their attention and they included a complimentary Regius Exclusico USA Toro Extra.

They state they have taken steps to ensure this batch will not crack but did not say what those steps were. We will see but I'm happy with their CS on this one. Applause

Smoked 8 so far and all cracked to some extent while smoking. The last one just barely cracked since the humidity outside was higher than normal at about 50%.

I plan to smoke one more then bury them in a cooler for a year or so. The profile kind of reminds me of LBJs when they first came out which benefitted from rest. Awful good right now though.

Ashed up another Perfecto tonight. Seemed to have more of the Pepin pepper than I remembered and very tasty but even after over a year at 65%, still had some burn issues. Wrapper held up fine though.
