A North Carolina radio station is dropping the broadcast of East Carolina's upcoming football game in reaction to last weekend's protest staged by members of the school's marching band.

WFAY-AM in Fayetteville announced Tuesday that it would not carry the Pirates' game at South Florida scheduled for Saturday. The move comes after the school said 19 band members kneeled during the anthem before the game against Central Florida to protest racial injustice and police brutality. Band officials issued an apology Monday.

Colonial Radio Group President and CEO Jeff Andrulonis said sponsors agree with the decision, but he'll lose advertising revenue.

The band members were following the lead of several NFL players who have kneeled at games, beginning with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who refused to stand for the anthem before preseason games.

I'm sure all the AM radio college football fans will be heartbroken. Seems just the other day that I saw another potential sports tournament remove North Carolina as a potential site due to their backward laws.

I agree all the way around. Its a free country but not free from consequences. Don't agree with disrespecting the Anthem? Pull the plug. Don't agree with laws of a state or city (MLK day, homo stuff etc....) pull the plug.

We do need more of this.

It would be a interesting thing to see what it would look like if all Americans stood or kneeled when the anthem was played as an approve rating of the state of our country.

It's funny how fast people would suppress our freedom to speak at a critical moment because they feel free speach rights don't extend to failure to snap to attention when national honors are displayed. Let's remember that this is a free country - you only stand if you want to.

Regardless of their cause - this is a free country. Let them kneel.

This is interesting. They protest legally, the radio station legally quits broadcasting their games. This makes me wonder, nfl ratings are down this year, is that a backlash to the protests?

consider this...not necessarily this issue, but protesting in general:

if it was a widely accepted cause, popular among most citizens, protesters would not feel the need need to protest in such a controversial way.

almost by definition, protests cause negative reaction...at least initially.

the fact that it is met with such scorn and yet is quite legal says a great deal about American freedom. "Freedoms" are meaningless if we all agree or if they are never put to the test.

Don't have an issues with protesting. But, for the life of me I'm not sure what they are protesting. If it's blacks being kills by police, there's an easy solution. But, no "leader" is going to say what the real problem is.

If it's inequality, then perhaps if groups would try to assimilate themselves into society instead of segregating themselves then blaming society for their failure to succeed perhaps as a group they would be more prosperous.

I may be out of line with the dictionary, but that is violence, period.
I can live with any peaceful protest though

Don't be upset - feel proud that we live in a country were you can offer public protest without being thrown in jail. People are alway going on about the cost of freedom - well, letting them have their statement is one of the costs.

Biting the hand that feeds them? No sir - they were going what they felt was the right thing. Just like we taught them....
