Why do people over bid on items that you they can buy directly from CI for a cheaper price? Ex. the fall spook spectacular sampler has 2 bids at $85.00 each, they can buy it outright from CI for $79.95. I'm sure CI loves these guys but I don't get it, maybe I'm the stupid one.Brick wall

Dude, it's cool and a legitimate question.
There is no rhyme or reason why people pay what they do.
All you can do is buy what you want and forget all the rest.

That being said,

Losing a lot with a small bid is a sign of weakness... you have to go the distance.

Oh, and PM staffers for membership requirements. The diamond encrusted platinum membership provides protection against overbidding. They'll cut that price down on an overbid instantly for one of their own.

welcome.....
don't listen to these clowns......
99% of the "overbidders" are most likely Platinum Plus Members.
Thus, their bids (if over the CI normal price) are automatically reduced by 50% at the close of the auction.
Just call Customer Service, ask for Trish, and she'll explain the details on how to get the membership.
I think it's like $100, and then you have to order $50/month after that, or something like that........

I've been watching the Gurkha spec ops, they usually sell for around $90- $100 on here. CI has them on sale for $99, then last night I see one of the auctions I'm watching has a QB buyer, dude paid $125 for something that's on sale for $99.

Just saying it's all good really, I buy some but I like watching to see where cigars sell at more and more. I bid on boxes of t52s at $150 just so I can see them sell for $280+!!! No way in hell will I win the box but then I can click on my outbid auctions and see what they sold for.

Overbidding is an incurable disease, like compulsive gambling. People who do this cannot stand the thought of losing a bid. As one poster to this thread pointed out, it is (to them) a sign of "weakness." It has nothing to do with how wealthy they are.

I did that once. Bid on a 5-pack, while looking at a box in the picture. Put in a pretty high max bid. Luckily, no one else upped the bid, so I got tham at a slightly high bid, but it could have been worse!

I also have gotten too quick and put my "Max bid" in the bid box. Just got to pay attention.

Yup seems the masses are ok with bidding something up til it's nearly at the same price they can get it for a CI. Oooo you saved $3 versus what it costs over at CI. Amazing.

That or they wait til the last second and fu ck up what would've been a good deal by sniping it. Congrats you've won the item and artificially inflated the price of the item on here.

Now if I see an auction closing and it's a good deal but the winnig bidder put his bid in 4 days ago I leave it alone. Same goes for any APO address I don't bid against our military personnel. I'll get the next one.

Cigar Bid, THANK GOD, is set up as a SNIPING AUCTION. Other Auction sites give you a minute or two at closing time to enter a new bid if someone out bids you. That is BULL****. All that does is run up the price so the retailer can suck more money out of the bidders pocket. Every bidder can be patient and realize that the stogie they are bidding on most likely will be offered up again and again, and won at the DISOCUNTED auction price, as opposed to a fattened up, last minute bidding feud that runs the price up.

FREEDOM TO SNIPE IS AN AMERICAN RIGHT!!!!

Pretty much contradictory statements there. In one paragraph you say that every bidder can be patient but I guess that doesn't apply to those doing the sniping?

Instead of sniping a good deal, let the person win that was there for the start of the auction.

The auction format doesn't have to change to what you describe because I like that last second proxy bid setup even less.

When I first was on here I sniped some auctions but as I figured things out and bid more I have abandoned sniping auctions. Bid early, bid often, bid low and see how things shake out. That's how smoking deals are found.
