Friends I fear what happened in California with the new cigar tax is only a matter of time before it happens nationwide, especially if Al Gore becomes president. I am sure he is salivating at the chance to reap the windfall of a new big cigar tax. The cigarette settlement was very disturbing for me. The government was crying out how much cigarette smokers cost our health care system (a myth in itself). Yet what happens when the states get this windfall? Not a penny goes to health care! In Colorado they are debating on and on what to do with the tobacco money, roads, parks, schools, but nothing to do with cigarette related illness! It's like they just sued big tobacco to help run the government. Well I have an idea for Al Gore. How about to save social security we sue McDonald's for producing a dangerous product full of fat, and the money we force the chain to settle with(and the feds can force a company to its knees, look at Smith and Wesson) we rescue social security. Then to pay down our national debt, we hit up Budweiser.

okay, I think there are some kinks in the forum here, and no it isn't the bourbon or ripple, but I did place this on the political board. Is it perhaps because I was leaving post on the cigar board first, then went to the political board and the post went back to the cigar board? Oh well this post is somewhat applicable here anyway.

Not sure why that's happening, but i'll look into it. I moved it to the right place. I also fear the same with Gore around. We need to start pounding out "Al Gore Sucks" chants ASAP.

Illinois has a like tax. If my memory serves me well, they (the state politicians) have placed a 15% tax on tobacco products. This is a shame, but how much of this problem falls at the feet of the lethargic voting public. Example, where I live in Murfreesboro, TN we had a chance to stop the raising of our local sales tax from 8.25 to 8.75%. Only 7% of registered voters turned out, and now everyone is bitching about there local politicians. Who F#@$ up? The voters. I am not aware of the circumstances in these other areas, but we the voters need vote, and when our choice is not an option, get the asses out of office. Oh, but that would require one to GO VOTE!!

I believe that the Illinois tax is 20%. I order all my cigars from other states over the internet.

The cigar tax in Minnesota is about 19%. Compounded with the state sales tax and local taxes, and it compels me to buy cigars online. You are right, AL GORE SUCKS, I will vote for Bush to make sure he is not elected. Bush certainly isn't the answer. We need a small, reasonable government, which doesn't have the power to regulate and prosecute industries where people should have a right to decide if they want to use those goods. Until the polls show that the American people want this sort of government, few politicians will take these stands

Right on, Right on, Right ON!! I recently moved from California, where the "Meathead Tax" has only succeeded in putting many mom and pop tobacconists out of business. Meathead, AlGore, Bill Clinton, and others of their ilk have nothing but contempt for hard-working Americans who have managed to put together their own respectable business. They seek to destroy the very fabric of our society, while arrogating power unto themselves. ALGORE BLOWS! He's coming after us and our cigars, just wait and see.
P.S. Go CigarBid.com! I love this service!
