the cops are easy targets, and I think it is sickening. The media is so quick to jump the gun and presume cops guilty until proven innocent. And to me if a punk leads a cop on a dangerous life threatening chase, and when he is finally stopped and the cop rough handles him, too bad for the punk. Who do you think the cop bashing liberals are going to call when a thug is breaking into their house, cops. If cops shoot a thug that fires at them first, 50 times, so be it. It doesn't take long to fire that many shots off, and for me it is best the cops are better safe than sorry. I could go on and on.

Cops, yes very few if any are rocket scientist; but most on the federal level have undergrad degrees. Depending on the agency you work for, receiving a graduate degree is highly encouraged. Example, a CPA followed by a MBA(international corporate finance).

Here here...Cops are not trained to shoot to kill...They are trained to incapacitate..They are trained to shoot as many times in such a situation as it takes to stop the offender..Period..Everyone loves fireman because they don't write tickets...I make no excuses and bear no sympathy for officers who abuse their power and brutalize citizens with no legal justification...I love my job and do it the best way I can..and that includes helping people who need help..There are, as the familiar quip goes, bad apples in every bunch, whether they are police officers, truck drivers, or any other career/group you can think of..When you have to make a split-second decision that will change lives under such intense pressure, you have to rely on instinct and training and pray that you made the right decision..Most officers go into this career field because they truly want to make a difference in their community..I know of no cops that are into the job just to make a buck because even though I get paid quite well, I will never get rich doing this...Well, theres my two cents.

now c'mon rookie, are you going to tell me in a life or death situation cops aren't trained to kill? I would hope they would be, for I would rather they come out of the fight alive than the criminal. The criminal that fires at cops is with intent to kill, I should hope cops fire back with the same intention, if they only intend to inflict a flesh wound, the criminal would continue firing back, silence him. Even if someone just points a gun a cops, I think that gives them license to open fire, why should the cops take the chance?

It's a thin blue line between civilization and total anarchy. For 25 years, I was a section of that blue line. A line that gets thinner with each passing day. And no one notices how thin the line is until they need protection from the scum that slips by and cross over that line. In the eight years that I've been enjoying cigars, I realize that some of the most knowledgeable people that I have known are fellow cigars smokers and you guys have proven that very point. To all of you that have posted under this thread, pat yourselves on the back and light up one of your tastiest sticks.

Been a beat cop and now a agent with the bureau....oh yes, I have a degree and most are very intelligent and some may be more intelligent than a rocket scientist. I dropped out of engineering school with a 4.0 GPA to pursue law enforcement to get on federal. As far as being liked....not often like one said about a fireman or paramedic. We often take away peoples most basic right...freedom to protect those who abide the law. Until you have walked in a cops shoes it is easy to criticize and look back on a undesirable outcome and comment. Try the job...you may wish you had never attempted it. As far as what I have commented on other post here...I believe what I say. I still love a good smoke and glass of bourbon, if you disagree with me on some of my post I hope we can still share common likes in our cigars....later friends!

As I stated, Cops are trained to shoot to "Incapacitate"..This simply means to stop the adversary...A flesh wound invites lawsuits and allows the offender to continue to do whatever he/she is doing that needs to be stopped..Cops are not trained to kill, but in many cases, the only way to "incapacitate" someone is, of course, to kill them which will stop them from continuing their actions.

and (almost forgot) yes pointing a gun toward the direction of an officer or officers is justification for deadly force...The reasonable person rule is generally used..Generally, If a person (in this example) points a firearm at a police officer, a "reasonable person" would believe that there is a great chance for injury or death to the officer and if the officer doesn't take immediate action, he/she can be severely injured or killed..There is the Use of Force Continuum which in short, says that you use the least amount of force needed to gain control of a person...i.e: You attempt to strike me with your fists and/or feet, I get to use OC or impact weapons (batons, for example)..You pull a knife (within a certain distance-generally 21 ft), I pull my gun..BTW< I am not a rookie...Ive just been lazy in changing my screen name for the past four year..Man, you got me rambling again :)
