Help with quitting chewing tobacco

Anyone able to offer some advice on how to quite chewing tobacco? It is hard because in a way I don't want to quit, but obviously I don't want to end up with cancer, gum disease or losing my teeth. I have tried cold turkey and that didn't work so well. I tried the fake/non-tobacco junk and they were too terrible to continue. Tried the beef jerky shreds and that just ripped up my lips.

I quit cold turkey.
Sucked bad for probably only about a week or two...I still got the desire occasionally for probably 3 or 4 years, but didn't waver. May have helped that I didn't use any other tobacco for years. I suspect that if I'd have been smoking cigars back then that it would have been harder for some reason....needed to make a clean break from the nicotine, I think.
Same with drinking....took a break for week...just to see how that would go...I'm on the same break after ...IDK...nearly 20 years, maybe?....good luck

A gay mouth packet guy. ha! I started a couple years back with the Camel Snus and randomly tried the Copenhagen Mint Pouches a few months back and haven't gone back. The Camel is only purchased now when I need to get some nicotine and can't spit.

The Copenhagen recall has killed me. Using Skoal Xtra Mint Pouches now.

Buy a good ecig. Mix your own juice, you'll have more money to buy better cigars.

I actually have one. Can't stand using the nicotine in the juice though. Kills my throat.

What ^dstieger^ said. My same experience.

Hankey, you strike me as a feller who finds it easy to talk, but tough to act. At least this is how your posts portray you. Consider what you're moving towards rather than mind-f#&@ing yourself about what you think you're saying goodbye to. Then, find your balls and man up. I know you have balls because you've shared that you have something like 372 kids. So unless they were adopted, you got 'em. And with 372 kids (and untold #'s of wives to bear them) your health matters to more than just you. Your inaction impacts them, too.

I like you. I've traded with you. I'm just getting tired of reading more of the same. You can change. We can't make you.

Thanks, I was just looking for help on ways to quit. Not sure if there was something I haven't tried. Like I said a few posts back, gonna have to just quit cold turkey. My problem is that I have zero self control. I say I'm not going to buy another tin and then find myself in the gas station.

BTW...in regards to my mental health...I have actually been doing pretty good this week. Fourth day without any significant issues. Not sure if it is the meds or just trying to have a different mindset. I'll take it either way.

I've been quitting for two years now, have cut back some. Peppermint disc and butterscotch disc have helped l, have two cans left and gonna try cold turkey again. Good luck, they say smokeless is harder to quit than cigarettes.

I have never tried cigs, but I could see that. I have a tin and a half left. Gonna try to not buy again after these are gone (not going to waste them).

Bahahaha...My longest quit period was 3 days...had a stressful day at work and went right back to them. They seem to cut the edge off the stress at work...that is the whole reason I use them...oh, and dealing with our 4 little munchkins (or 372 according to NWStogie..plus, my 127 wives are a little stressful to deal with too. I am a busy man.)

I'm not betting on you, Hank. No way you're quitting now...sorry...

Not going to waste them??? Wth does that mean? Two weeks from now...whether you toss them in the **** can now...or chew them up....they are just as gone....and wasted....

You want to quit? I call bs...but, if I'm wrong and you do want to quit....then throw those two cans in the trash...now....what possible reason could you have to wait?

Don't throw them away in the trash can, throw them in the toilette. If you throw them in the trash, you'll be digging them out.

I am not a wasteful person. They cost too much to just trash them. Just how I am. Plus, they will be gone by Monday night, Tuesday at the latest.

Thanks for the extra incentive to quit...that may be what I needed.

Wanna make it a bet? I swear I will be honest on my status. 20 cigars...you can name the terms as long as it starts next Wednesday. Ha!

I'll take that bet... but you have to quit forever... which means the second you put chewing tobacco of any form into your mouth, you send me 20 cigars... if you die before that day comes, then you win and I'll send 20 to you the next day...

Here you go, Hankster. I think I have something that might work.

1. Send me an assortment of 48 quality medium to full-strength cigars. Make sure they are ones you really like. No dog rockets, even if you like dog rockets. Make it worth something. Make them nice enough that their loss would really, really suck for you and getting them back would be a nice reward. $5 and up cbid prices should be the minimum. I will agree to store them at the correct temp and humidity.

2. For each month you stay chew-free, you will earn 4 of your cigars and I will send them to you Priority Mail in a SFR.

3. If you choose to chew, you agree to fess up and the one month timer to earn 4 cigars is reset. For example, you are set to earn your cigars on the last day of the month. But you chew on the 20th but are chew-free again starting on the 21st. Time clock resets and then starts again the first day you are chew-free, in this case, the 21st. So now you need to stay chew-free until the 21st of the next month to earn your next 4 cigars.

4. At the one year mark, I keep whatever cigars are left over.

5. Your skin in the game: 48 quality cigars and the cost of shipping them to me. My skin in the game: shipping costs for 12 SFR boxes.

Your move, Tank-Boy.
