Dam... that looks like i can live in it. Let me rephrase the question.

My close friend for some reason is taking a trip to cuba for fun at the end of January. he offered to bring me back some CC's. And so i ask, if you had to get a box of CC from Cuba, which one would it be? I only ask since i have never had CC's since i started seriously smoking about 2 years ago.

Some i had in mind were, Ramon Allones, Partagas, Hoyo, Cohiba, Monte. Wonder if they have a sampler? Anyway, he says he is going to havana and then vinales.

which one should i ask for?

That rule has changed. They just charge you duties on the excess now.

I'm sure there is some upper limit, like don't try to bring back a master case, but just keep it within reason and I suspect you would be fine. The same as bringing back stuff from any other country.

I had a buddy just get back and brought a ton without any hassle at all.

Partagas (maybe 160's)
Cohiba Silo IV

Would probably do the trick for me if 7ou aren't trying to get too crazy.

Cuban Partagas 160's???
Those are rare!!!

Easier to just order online and have delivered to your front door.
Except for the Parti 160's - you have to go there for those.

There is no longer a limit. Travellers are permitted to bring back as much rum, cigars etc. as one can carry, for personal use of course.
For my $.02, I would would definitely stock up on custom rolled cigars from one or more of the well known rollers like Reynaldo, Jorge
Lopez, Alex etc. Would also seek out some RE's and LE's.
As has been previously stated, most others can be procured online.

There is no limit any longer. For my money it gets no better than Behike. It is difficult to find LEs in Cuba. My parents visited last month, and the local stores had no LEs in stock (in the city of Trinidad). That's not to say that stores in larger cities won't have them. Anyway, careful getting custom rolled cigars from local rollers. I had my parents bring me back a case of custom rolled ($2 a piece) from Trinidad (area is major producer of tobacco) and they had nothing but chopped tobacco in them - what I can assume to be floor sweepings or leftovers. They smelled moldy when I got them, so I decided to dissect one. Stick with the famous rollers like SRH1 said.

Anyways, I ordered two boxes of Behike this month from a buddy who is there now. Hopefully they turn out to be the real deal.

This because they are not easily obtainable here. I was unaware that the rule had changed yet again myself.

Agreed with SRH1....I'd definitely be picking up some custom rolled. Not real big on the EL/RE craze. Outside that, probably the ERDM RE for Cuba if still available, and then all the regular production stuff I could carry back!! Literally!!

Correct. Fantastic way to market cigars at a higher price, though there have been a few phenomenal releases. Largely, not worth the extra coin.

alright.
Cohiba (what you can find)
Partagas
Los Statos Deluxe
Reynaldo Factory, Jorge Lopez, Alex factory - custom rolls
El Rey Del Mundo

I also had Hoyo and Ramon Allones and Monte.

Okay. We are going to research where he needs to go and if he can spare the time from the rest of his schedule to visit places.

Cuban REs, LE and LCDH releases are the best deals in Cuba, along custom rolled cigars. Everything else is priced pretty comparably elsewhere. LEs and REs are usally thin on the ground.

The safest, smartest, bet is to send him to the nearest La Casa del Habanos and buy everything with a red secondary band: H Upmann Royal Robustos and Ramon Allones Superiors would be my first two choices.

The custom rollers mentioned are house rollers at well known Cuban hotels. It's best to pre order to ensure you get the vitola you want. Some rollers are most well known for specific sizes, for example, Jorge is known for rolling 'Monsdales' and Reynaldo is known for his large ring gauge cigars.

I will pass that on to him. So one of his best friends went into seminary and decide priesthood wasnt his thing. He got out and asked my friend and one other to goto cuba as a trip. So i dont know what his schedule will be like. I wil def pass on that specific cigar and more info and see if he can nab some. I will keep u up to date. Its funny i bragged that i won some cc on ff league this year and the dude says i am going to cuba and will get u some cc's. F'er... thanks for all input. But since he is not going alone and for cc alone i wont make any promises.

Been giving this some considerable thought lately. Any sites for ordering cigars more reputable than others? The few that I've browsed seem to be very detailed about how they package and ship it, but then there's a substantial amount of ambiguity with regard to how the shipment enters the US, or even IF it enters the US.

Alex (Alejandro Gonzalez Arias) is the House Roller at the Hotel Comodoro in Havana. Alex and his cigars can be found there.

Cohiba, Trinidad, Romeo y Julieta, or Bolivar Super Corona. Can't go wrong with any of those. Supposedly Tinidad was made special for Fidel Castro. I think that story has been refuted though.

The Trinidad brand was originally developed for Fidel to gift to visiting dignitaries and eventually morphed into a commercial label.

As for specific marcas, I'd hesitate to make a recommendation as everyone's tastes are different. One man's favorite may be at the bottom of someon else's list....and while typically similar in profile, most vary from one size to another.

You're thinking of Cohiba. However, Trinidad are said to be a similar blend to Cohiba, but they don't receive that extra fermentation before rolling.

From Cigar Review:

"Since 1980, the Trinidad Fundadores has been produced exclusively for Fidel Castro. The only boxes that left Cuba were gifts to foreign diplomats. On February of 1998, the brand was officially launched as an export in Trinidad, Cuba. The cigars were first made available in Canada and Mexico in April 1998, and later became available to the world market. This line features one size, the Fundadore, which means Founder. It is similar in size to the Cohiba Lancero, measuring at a ring guage of 40 and a length of 7 and 3/4 inches or 195 mm.
Named after one of Cuba's most beautiful cities, the Trinidad is produced only in the El Laguito factory, and packaged in an 'unusual' quantity of 24 cigars as well as in cabinets of 50."

It appears it was just the Fundores that were rolled for Castro....

The Cuban brand is filled with tobacco that comes from the Vuelta Abajo region of Cuba which has undergone an extra fermentation process. Cuban Cohiba was established in 1966 as a limited production private brand supplied exclusively to Fidel Castro and high-level officials in the Communist Party of Cuba and Cuban government. Often given as diplomatic gifts, the Cohiba brand gradually developed a "cult" status. It was first released commercially for sale to the public in 1982.
