So, my DD (4yrs/4mos) never really got into this phase. She was generally obedient and we could calmly ask her, in a serious tone, not to do something... and she listened! She had a few bad moments and would act-out, of course, like all kids do... but, generally, she was well-bahaved and we got through the "terrible 2's & 3's" just fine.
Well, my Aug2008 DS is a different child (obviously, I know its wrong to compare kids to one another), and it is just a daily struggle with him! He talks about "poop" and "toot" constantly! Every song he sings... he inserts a "poopy pants" line, and then DD laughs (which encourages him... we're working with her on what "ignoring your brother" means and I need to start disciplining her for laughing about the potty talk).
Should I ignore him and pretend I don't hear him? If DD laughs, then that won't work, cause he's still getting the attention he wants from it by her response (even if I show no signs of a response).
Should I discipline him each time? (I really can't... its all day long, and he gets into trouble for multiple other reasons all day as it is... this kid is ridiculous with the blatant disobedience and will-power to do all things wrong no matter the consequence).
Should I just accept the fact that this may be a "phase" and hope that once he is fully potty-trained, he will get used to the fact that potty humor belongs in the bathroom only, and not everywhere else?
Uggh... just a vent, I guess. I *almost* want to laugh when he will look a person in the eye, very seriously, and ask them: "Did you poop? Poop on the head!" I'm warning everyone close to us now about the possible inquisition from DS!! I know he will get into trouble at preschool next year for this stuff.
