Outstanding for what I paid for it. Liquor store had a CRAZY sale...picked up the small batch for $18!

anyone ever try eagle rare??

I haven't had it yet, but I've heard nothing but good things about it.

What I really want to try is some George T Stagg.

Still on a bourbon kick thanks to Ron's 'Garrison Brothers' Recommendation.

Four Roses Small Batch.

agree on both counts...not that AE is bad, but there are better for less $ per my preferences, many love it at any price.

just my opinion, but I like to pair Elmer with maduros, but even more with one that has a bit of bite or strength.
Though I'd smoke anything with bourbon.

Eagle Rare 10 yr.

Smooth, I liked what was there. I think it would be good for someone who doesn't drink bourbon all the time.

being a confirmed bourbon man, I have come to the scotch party late. my shpo guru pointed me toward The Macallan 12 over Balvenie Doublewood due to my noobness and I have been developing an appreciation for this style Tried a bit of the Doublewood tonight and I could see his logic, I'm sure I would have closed my mind to scotch if I started with it but tonight I was able to "get" it.

I have been thinking about Glenfarclas, probably 12, as I am still a scotch noob. Anyone care to venture an opinion on my plan?

A smart man once told me to go Glenfarclas 15 over the 12. That being said, I love Macallan 12. As of now, probably more than the doublewood. If you go Macallan, go sherry...fine oak isn't as good IMO. Only had the 10 though and that was about 2 years ago.

Balvenie Portwood is probably the best scotch I've ever tasted. Haven't had Macallan 18 though...

I liked the Mac 12 more than the dram of doublewood I tried, I detected more sherry influence so that may be why, but figured that may change as time goes on, maybe not. I'll check around for the Glenfarclas 15, so far I have seen 12 and 17 and the 17 is nearly twice the price. Just wanted confirmation that I was following the correct flavor profile path.

Taps or someone suggested Balvenie caribbean (rum) cask, so that's on my list to try also. No hurry, one bottle at a time, meanwhile I am still a bourbon guy by nature.

Thanks once again T.

Frank,

It's a toss up.

Aberlour A'bunadh or Balvenie Caribbean cask. They both are REALLY good. The Aberlour though is more potent and I think smoother.

Nevermind....just read this

Note: Preston Van Winkle contacted us on September 17 to request a correction on this story, saying that he did not specifically say that this year’s Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve 23 would be the final one with whiskey from the Stitzel-Weller Distillery. After reviewing the audio from the interview in Episode #440, this story was edited to include his exact quotes from the interview. While we strive for 100% accuracy in all of our content, we are always glad to correct errors when necessary
