I did see this one description online: Quote: Tobacco is planted early in the year and harvested in springtime. In order to provide Garcia’s desired backdrop, the Fuentes decided to plant a summer Corojo crop purely for use as a setting in the film. The plants grew, the scenes were filmed (take a look here halfway down the page to see one), and that was that. While The Lost City may not have succeeded as well as Garcia had hoped as a film, the throwaway tobacco surprised everyone in the best way.
