I saw portions of the debate. I was very impressed with the way both conducted themselves. What I saw was actually more informative than the presidential candidate debate. One particular exchange was CLASSIC!! -- The question concerned bipartisanship. Who was better equipped to end so much party-line bickering? Cheney answered that Bush's track record in Texas was excellent in this regard. He mentioned Bush didn't point fingers and instead shared in the credit when something was accomplished. He pointed out the Clinton/Gore era was marked with much finger-pointing -- at Republicans, at big business, at the wealthy, etc. He noted after 7 years not much had been accomplished. ANYWAY, Lieberman countered by saying Clinton/Gore accomplished much by noting a strong economy (duh, did Clinton single-handedly improve our economy?) and he (Lieberman) asked the question, "Wouldn't most Americans say they're better off now than 8 years ago?" (Didn't really answer the question at hand.) He then asked Cheney, "Why you yourself are much better off than you were 8 years ago (Cheney's been in the private sector, and has been successful). Cheney answered, "Well yes, I am better off. But I can assure you, the government had nothing to do with it." I LAUGHED OUT LOUD! Lieberman, in an attempt to go along with the humorous tone, said, "My wife in the audience is now probably saying she'd like to see me move into private business." Cheney, with quick wit, responded, "Well, Joe, I'm attempting to put you there." MAN DID I LAUGH!!! Cheney's the man. What an impressive guy. Bush and his advisors were BRILLIANT to bring him on. I hope every American gets the chance to hear this man speak.
